General Musical discussion thread
…continued from the Hummer.
TBH, the Vinyl isn’t getting used much these days, it’s just FAR too convenient to throw in a CD or put the Mp3 on. And, when I’m in Vinyl mood, I need to sit in the central armchair (With tweeters at ear level) and actually listen. with a nice 5 star Metaxa.
However, I’m married with children and sitting down and listening doesn’t seem to be on the agenda unless I’m getting told off.
Edit…..Oh, this was meant to be a new topic!

I shoulda said. I have music from Chike or Beety, Ballet or Opera, Motown or Metal, Reggae or Rappin (1), Dance or Trance, Rock or Punk, Girly romantic crap or melodic elevator music, Theloneous type Jazz or Sinatra type Big band,”Pop” from the 50’s/60’s/70’s/80’s/90’s/00’s/10’s. I’ve even got some Glam Rock derge from the 1970’s. Oops.
So, a broad gamut of tastes dontcha think. So, IMO, Grunge is rubbish, and Hendrix was only good because he died young. Coldplay are a route to suicide for the youth and Queen stole Alice’s image. Not saying they weren’t musicians, but their output is not all it could have been.
And, my Bass on my HiFi (real stuff not Jap tinny rubbish) is set to central. Some people (Like doorhandle heads in Vauxhall Nova’s with a big false exhausts) turn it up and thus ruin a tune, completely.
However, a good Bass based (I bet I can’t write that anywhere else!!) tune is stunning.
(1) I’ve got some Eminem stuff. I find it mildly amusing that the best rapper is a white guy. Black rap is just angry racist noise with swearing.
Where’s the ‘bow down and worship’ smiley?! To be honest, liking vinyl and having the bass set flat brings you a couple of notches further up so you’re doing alright. Anyway, better get back onto the subject of stupid cars before we get bollocked.
P.S. I’m with ya on Coldplay…

It’s a dig with humour, sorry I forget the Smiley’s.;)
It goes back to the ancient snobby opinion that Drummers and Bass players are not true musicians.“Non musical”…..meaning I can only play the comb and paper.
But I listen to it constantly, have 1 tb of music on PC plus about 2,000 (Plastic) albums and about the same on CD.
So, I reckon I can judge a good toon, and recognise bits that are hard to play etc.
Mine was actually also intended to be humorous, I also missed out the smiley!
As far as that snobbery is concerned, it’s generally guitarists who think bass is easy… Until they actually try play it. 😀
By the way, having a large music collection in no way whatsoever means you have a good ear. There are plenty of people who’ve (somehow) been making a living out of music for decades and they’re still crap, so I take people who claim to know what they’re talking about purely because they have a large music collection with a huuuuge pinch of salt, probably a bit like you and ‘armchair experts’ on aviation forums. 😉

How is it someone as evidently unmusical as you can constantly try rip bass players to pieces?!

It says Hummer on the front of it, it’s a Hummer limo to me. What do you want me to say?

My point is don’t blame GM/Hummer for something they did not build…

Ha! I meant the Hummer limos, and in fact all stretched cars like that. They not only look crap but they have a turning circle wider than the Pride Of Hull. Stupid, stupid vehicles!
I agree.

That Rolls with the Merlin Engine in it did NOT look stupid!
It ripped the concrete off the autobahns!……a DVLA search shows the engine capacity as 27000cc (LoL)

Which Hummer did not make.
People do stupid things to Rolls and Mercedes too.
They still look stupid.

[B]Which Hummer did not make.
Beat me to it. The proper Hummer weighs about the same as Africa and to drive it in UK you need a HGV licence.
By: J Boyle - 25th February 2010 at 18:53
Does that mean an end to those tacky and utterly ridiculous Hummer limousines that chavs hire for nights out to make themselves feel more important?

The military Humvee is still in production by AM General.
GM just marketed the civil vehicles.
The H2 and H3 were just rebodied GM vehicles…which were built in GM factories.
I’d like a used civil H1 (or a ex military Humvee) as an occasional winter vehicle.
I’d love to explore Montana and Wyoming in the winter.

But isn’t the “brand” for sale?
By: Moggy C - 25th February 2010 at 10:34
They were talking with China but they obviously saw sense and pulled out of the deal leaving GM with little option but to shut it down.

Any money on offers for the brand from Russia or China???
By: Blue_2 - 25th February 2010 at 08:16
Just been on Radio 2 news about it, they mentioned that the likes of Arnie and Beckham buy Hummer. So the Beeb are hardly helping GM flog the brand, are they? :p
By: DazDaMan - 25th February 2010 at 07:26
We can but hope! 😀
By: PMN - 24th February 2010 at 23:54
Maybe the owners saw sense…? 😉
…And burned it out to claim the insurance? At least it would be a better colour! 😀
