G-TOMC when at Baginton

Having recently posted a pic of this Texan when it was on the dump at Ferte Alais, I thought Ben would appreciate another I took of it when it came to the UK after its film star role. I took the shot I think in June 1988. It was by then stored in a remote part of Coventry (Baginton). I must say that having seen the absolutely amazing job being done now at Brunters to restore it to the sky, it’s hard to believe this is what you and your colleagues began with. Hope you like it!

Yep thats our baby –

heres a model of what she looked like in the film (I would post a screen shot but EOTS hasnt been released as a region 2 dvd yet so i cant do a screen grab)

TT

Umm now I thought I had seen it in the shops (but then again probably had my head in the clouds as usual). Just checked and its not available until 6 March 2006.

Is that the one that the ‘boy’ found while flying his glider, the other ‘Zeros’ were dark green in the film I seem to remember, haven’t seen it for a while.

The “other” Texan once sharing space with G-TOMC at Baginton was indeed G-BJST. It’s masquarade as a Zero was a little more convincing involving surgery to the canopy area + wing mods etc. I have some shots of it there, but it was shrouded in transparent plastic; so I thought you might better enjoy another shot I took of JST when it was offered for sale in an auction at Luton (can’t remember the year for certain – think it was ’87). You can see two of the Nord 3400s in the background. Ironically these also came originally from Ferte Alais.

She has made a great progress since then hasn’t she. Now we can see how much hard work is put into rebuilding these warbirds. Nice to see a bit background stuff on this texan. 🙂

Believe G-BJST was rebuilt at Thruxton and now wear the colours of KF729 the aeroplane that Prince Phillip flew at White Waltham in the early 1950s. It was in the static park at this year’s Yeovilton Air Day.

I took some pictures of the Texan’s at Coventry in 1991. The more complete of the two was indeed G-BJST and was entered in the auction at Luton along with some
Nord 3400’s – the whole scene at Coventry was the saddest end to some nice aircraft
I have ever seen .Included in all the stuff there was Jeff Hawke’s Pontiac Ram Air 400
with Florida plates.

I dont know which one it was – but it was an Empire of the Sun airframe. If its a different one, where is it now?

Wasn’t G-BJST at the Luton auction? Aircraft was pictured sitting on its wheels but with the wings off from memory

Thats new gen to me Bruce – AFAIK she went from Coventry to Aces High at North Weald and was acquired from there – wonder where the Luton one went, if a different airframe?

Is this the one that was for sale at an auction at Luton airport in the late eighties? Gannet XL502 was also there. I dont think I had my camera with me then!
