GA pilot numbers

Are we many or few current pilots?  Would it be possible to get some idea of the numbers who regularly visit or, are likely to visit General Aviation ?

The General Aviation forum doesn’t seem to attract much attention these days and I wondered whether – as with much else,  it was a question of numbers rather than the lack of stimulating information and news items that in the past appeared quite regularly on GA.
