Hmmm. Speaking as someone who used to lie awake listening to Gannets interminably night flying at Culdrose in the 60’s, it didn’t sound as I remember them.

Funny you should say that. Don’t have your experience, but even before I read your post I thought it sounded different to the way I remembered it.

scale turbo prop…or 4 stroke?…

It’s equipped with a BME 100cc opposed twin two stroke. The engine drives the rear propeller while the front one is simply free-wheeling. Mr. Wigley builds truly fantastic models and must have an affection for big, brutish, and British subjects. Here is his latest masterpiece:

The Wyvern must be the only aircraft designed ugly and got worse in service.

The prototype was certainly more attractive than the service variants!

Fabulous to see on where it should be, but they don’t get any prettier with age do they? :eagerness:

Moggy

Call me daft if you want but I think it has a strange kind of beauty which I don’t think has ever been matched by any other type.

I grew up with Gannets and Wyverns and would love to see either or both in the air again!:)

I imagine that you may get to see the Gannet at some point as it would not be too far fetched to think it could end up back in the UK at some point. Surely such a machine would be much better received in her homeland. In regards to the Wyvern there is a gentleman here in the USA, David Wigley, who has been very successfully campaigning a fantastic large scale flying model of the airplane. While I would prefer to think otherwise, I imagine this may be as close as the world will get to a flying Wyvern.

“And it’s not ugly. Look at the Blackburn B-54, built for the same RN spec if you want ugly”

Same Service – Short Seamew anyone?

Hmmm. Speaking as someone who used to lie awake listening to Gannets interminably night flying at Culdrose in the 60’s, it didn’t sound as I remember them. My instant thought on seeing it take off was .. “is this a model?” Sounded much higher pitched than I recall.

And it’s not ugly. Look at the Blackburn B-54, built for the same RN spec if you want ugly!

And in the style of the Daniel Pemberton Orchestra (Monster Moves)….

A reprise to the first three verses penned here…

Her wings unfold, her props will turn
Aloft again her fuel she’ll burn
Her Mambas whine and off she flies
Orange and silver across the skies

Back in the air the Fairey Gannet
Sole flying survivor, upon the planet
To grace the sky o’er land and sea
“WIBAL?”, the cry, a hopeful plea….

πŸ™‚

Wibal ?? took a while, but I got it ! Nice one

Anyway, it had better be……………….
