I believe they are waiting on a spare engine, I’m not sure if it is financing or scarcity holding things up, the earlier ASMD.3 series is alot scarcer in good running nick than the quite different 112s of the AEW Gannets.

I havent heard anything Cypherus and its too far to go for a looksee…

Which again begs the question Peter, How is Ganders enforced resident faring these days, little news has leaked back across the water on this one.??

Just wondering if there is a chance we could see this and the one at Gander flying together sometime in the future?
Or how about a proper RN Formation , Sea Vixen, Gannet & Bucc

The transportation of XL500, was a painless exercise, here are a few images that I managed to take, hope you like them.
Loaded at North Weald
Tightest part of the journey was just along the road from North Weald’s main gate.
10:30pm at Membury Services on the M4.

Gannets..ugly? Not at all, distinctive..yes….full of character..absolutely….but not UGLY.
And you should hear a Double Mamba at full chat. Interesting and fairly unique engine to challenge the engineers I would have thought.

And i cant see why anyone would call it anything other than hideous!!-having said that, it will be nice to see it fly again-be nicer still to get regular updates on the engineering work

My favourite aircraft, Excelent news and good luck with the project.
I remember when ‘500 was last airworthy, creating its strange noises at Culdrose in the mid ’80s while on trials work.
I can’t see why people always call the Gannet ugly, it was workman like sure, but not ugly!

Great news! Will keep my eyes open to see updates about this project! 🙂
Lovely aircraft!

Great stuff. I wonder if this was the one flown in the ’80s(?) by Neil Moffat
XL 502 was the Gannet flown by Neil Moffat, now resident at the Yorkshire Air Museum.

Blimey – my heart missed a beat then, thinking that somehow I missed out on this restoration of this Gannet! Nice little headline!
I remember seeing this very a/c flying around Helston in 1983/84 whilst it was being used by Dowty Rotol. Pilot was Lt Cdr Ken Lamprey who flew the Seahawk from Culdrose in 1982.
Would love to see this back on the airshow circuit again – Gannet AEW3’s – I love ’em!

Ugly? Not a bit of it! As Lee says, it’s all character!!

SEAFURYMAN
No this was the one that sat a Chatham dockyard for many a year before it was moved to North Weald, the aircraft is in a fairly good condition, and once restored to flying conditon it will return to North Weald and be part of the great collection at Kennets.
I look forward to refuelling it once it comes back !!!

Great stuff. I wonder if this was the one flown in the ’80s(?) by Neil Moffat (might have the wrong name).
The Gannet was a great display item, I look forward to it taking part in a FAA mixed formation after it’s journey to flight is complete 🙂
