Garden

Last T5’s thread makes me wonder.

How many of you guys can watch planes taking off or landing from their backyard?

I do since ORY is very very close to my house.

Approaches to 34 at BSL go pretty much right overhead, and those takeoffs from 16 that head right after liftoff (pretty much all outgoing flights from 16 get moved at least a bit to the right as otherwise they’d be going straight over the city centre.

34 is only really used for landings in the evenings, though, so most of what I see is climbing stuff, which is already pretty high by the time it gets this far out. (Except the infamous KAL 744F, but they try and put that on 34 whenever possible, to avoid the city)

Although I am 85 miles from LHR my house is directly under some of the trans-atlantic flight paths. Some a/c are easier to spot than others, like the large Beoings, but the sight of Concorde every night is still loverly.
Bristol is a stones throw away too, so I often see a/c on approach for there.
When Im sat here on this damn PC (still aint learnt were off button is), I am looking out the window and can watch the comings and goings at RAF Lyneham and see all sorts of a/c. This will be sadly missed from 2007!!

I also do see LGW departures from my garden, but they are at least 10,000 ft, maybe more up in the air.

But my new binnos pick the airline out easily. 😀

Nice pic Kev.

Like Andrew I see a/c land at LHR or rather on glide path but only if their coming in on 27L/R and then they might be at 5000 feet so not always easy to see. Sunday mornings is generally the best time to see a/c coming in, mainly B747s and A 340s and 330s, and any other long haul a/c.

Yes. Departures on 33 at BHX/EGBB cross over my house at 4,000 feet or so. Arrivals for 15 often cross my house as they turn to establish on the localiser for the ILS at about 2,500 feet.

Here’s a Titan 146 overhead for 15.

I can’t see the runway action, but the views are good when aircraft pass over and we see lots of turning above us.

Sometimes, the aircraft even retract their landing gears over us, but this is rare.
