The boys and i spent the day at doncasters aero venture, there i got talking to one of the staff who told me the lighning there was privately owned, which made me think.
what garden ornament of the military nature would you like in your yard if only to miff the neighbours.I once took a friend to mildenhall air fate years ago he soon fell in love with the rapier missile battery on display, which amused me as at the time he lived only a **** stride from luton airport and him having one in his yard would raise an eyebrow or two.

Ideally a Tupelov ‘Bear’. I don’t have a garden to speak of, but a quick run up of the engines now and again would stop people taking up all the parking spaces!
…If there isn’t one of those I’ll have a Shackleton MR3 please.

Yep, a Hunter, out of Chivenor if I remember correctly, had a problem so the pilot pointed it out to sea and ejected, the aircraft then turned and flew back towards the coast, result as you see in the photo
Brawdy actually – I was stationed there at the time of this accident…..lol (It wasn’t my fault…lol) Got to be the luckiest and weirdest ejection accident I’ve ever seen – after ejection, the hunter was tilted slightly by the force of the seat going, and flew all on it’s own, as you say….
I’ve got to say – at that time our Hunters were falling out of the dky quite often – especially T7’s? We seemed to lose one a week….. must be that they led a hard life….. although the example I’m involved with only has 3000 hours flown in all it’s long history (mine’s a better example then..lol)
Talking of ejections – witnessed a Starfighter doing it’s usual too, also at Brawdy 😮

Hmm, id have to go for a Westland Wessex, probably the biggest thing that would fit, and also i could live in it :p
Good man! But take it from me the seats in the back are not that comfy after an hour or so…
I suggested that my Father buy a Hunter (saw one on Ebay recently) as he lives next door to Tim Manna, we thought it would be a good way to keep up with the Joneses………

Personally I’d go for the B-52 or Vulcan. Take over the whole street.

Why does a T6 owner need a big chopper?
Our T-6 hasnt got a ‘whisper mode’…:( 🙁
RL =- yep Volcano essential! 😀

If you are short of space, sometimes you have to cram it in!

i only live 10 mins away from the said lightning so my aviation fix is readily to hand 😀 but for my own garden “toy”, would have to be a hunter, i would love to own one of these. BUT, if money was no object………..any one fancy taking on the job of building a lancaster B11 ? now THAT would look pretty amazing.

You mean airwolf the kick-ass helicopter from the tv show? You need an old volcano to hide it in though :p

Yes Tintagel 6th July 1979. A/c abandoned over the sea, but it turned inland, and ended up as seen,;- there were no injuries.
Thought it was, remember it well, I was working at Culdrose at the time, they scrambled lots of helo’s with medical teams to Tintagel as the reports said that the aircraft had come down on the town. They expected numerous casualties as it was holiday time, but in fact no one was hurt, the aircraft I believe even slid right through a petrol station forecourt before ending up as shown wedged between the houses, a very lucky escape for everyone concerned.

. How about a nice searchlight for the front garden?
Most of the large ones used down the road in Hollywood are of the WWII variety, just painted a different colour these days. Major running cost seems to be those effing great lightbulbs…

Nowadays, the F-16 will rather choose your lawn. Which does for a very nice ornament.
If this happens do we have to give it back it being our garden and all.

Here we had several F-104s doing the same thing in the 70’s… Of course their preferred landing spots were roofs and / or schools.

Is that the one that came down in Tintagel some years ago?

Even more special when you realise it got there without a pilot – Thankfully.

Now, that’s special 😀
