Over the past couple of weeks or so, a Thunderbird GtoA missile has been cleaned up and painted at MAM. This missile (Army equiv of the RAF’s Bloodhound I believe) has lain around at MAM for a number of years now until it was ‘discovered’ by a fully equipped expedition venturing into the hinterlands of the ‘wild country’ adjacent to the Robin Hangar.
Intention is to mount this bit of kit outside the museum’s entrance as a Gate Guard. This is a good thing. 😎 Pics show the muscle in before and after states.
Before
After
A survivor from the initial expedition reports that they actually saw another Thunderbird in the wilds but they ran out of tea and biscuits before it could be investigated further. It is hoped to fund and mount a further exploratory expedition when the weather clears, or next year, whichever comes first.

fine sense of humour, take it u guys forgot the weetabix that morning then LoL Is the 2nd missile the same as the first just in a lot more bits or is it a different one? Bex
Thunderbird 2 is not in bits, unless you call the winglets off the bits, but the body is all in one piece. As this is not a training missile like TB 1 but a real missile, it’s a bit bigger!!
Hense the stuck bit! 😀

Update
Thunderbird One is just about ready for Gate Guard duty, awaiting the carpenter finishing off special mounting frame.

RAF Roundal because the massive research department (back table in the cafe) at MAM have unearthed gen which inicates that the early tests of these muscles were carried out by the RAF who painted them white – now that’s handy innit!
🙂
The brave blokes at MAM undertook to subdue their fear of the netherlands and, with extra tea and biscuits rations, trudged east again into the ‘Lands Beyond’.
The initial exploratory (see posts above) uncovered a second T-bird and had broken open its sargophegus. Now a third and even fourth or fifth expedition will recover this ancient instrument of war – Thunderbird Two.

From this reporter’s conversations with the natives it would seem that Thunderbird Two will be furbished and set up as a cargo load in the Argosy. I like that. 🙂

Nice work,
I see you even pumped the tyres up on the trolley…nice Chocks! 😀
i constantly amazed at the number of applications that those wheels are used for!
there’s barely a bit of ground equipment that doesn’t have them on!
(although i seem to remember thay had a nasty habit of falling of oxy/nitogen trolleys when being towed at speed behind landrovers…. 😉 )

Hi Kev,
Sounds like that would have been Malc and Gordon. The wilderness as you call it isnt as big as you would think Kev and to be honest with you it would be a struggle to find something to do for a few hours down there.
Myself and RobMac are actually planning to tame the wilderness next week. Ive taken a week of from work to help Rob in this. Athough it will take longer than a week to do at least its a start.
But like you said health and safety is of prime consideration.
Ive sent you a PM.

I saw two gentleman working on this two Sundays ago. Must say it looks absolutely superb now.
I know there may be a H&S issue here but might it be worth offering trips into the wilderness in order to raise some more money? I for one would be prepared to pay to spend a couple of hours mooching in the hinterland beyond the Robin.
Might pop down again Sunday. It’s always a pleasure to visit.
