Hi all,
Received an e-mail from a friend in England with the information that the BBC TV are doing programs to commemorate VJ Day. On one of the adverts for these programmes it shows a reporter out side an airfield somewhere in the UK. Standing behind this reporter as “Gate Guardian” is a Hawker Tempest V!! The squadron code is 4D-V (No 74 Trinidad Sqn, which never flew Tempests…)
Hendon’s NV778 has spent parts of it’s life as a Gate Guardian, but that was in the 60s. And I think it was coded 5R-F then.
Have any one seen this advert? Is it really a Tempest Mk. V?????
As far as I know the only existing Mk. Vs are Hendon’s NV778 (well, sort of Mk. V… 😉 ) and Weeks’ EJ693.
Any clues would be much-appreciated!

Thanks guys!
Mystery solved, will pass the link and photos to my friend. He better have to learn how to distinguish between a Tempest and a Spit! 🙂

Errm, Perhaps it’s a Spitfire?
Only BBC trailer I’ve seen shows a guy standing in front of a Spit 16, which was moved into St.James’ Park, London for last weeks events.
See an earlier thread – unless of course, I’ve missed something. 😮
