Gate guards

Any idea as to the future of the Bucc at Lossiemouth, the Comet at Lynham and the Victor at Marham? Both the Comet and Victor I would say were doomed, but isnt the Comet the only ex RAF one left? and doesnt it belong to the RAF museum?

RE: Gate guards

Hi SADSACK. No Comet at Lossie. The only Comet in the area is a battered chunk of fuselage at Kinloss which we used for battle damage repair practice during the days of TACEVAL’s. I’m not even sure of it’s identity!

RE: Gate guards

That sounds hopeful, Lossie without a Buccaneer would be immoral!

Is the Comet still there?

RE: Gate guards

Some info on the Lossie Bucc. The Lossiemouth Business Association is currently in discussion with RAF Lossiemouth about the possibility of opening a visitor centre at RAF Lossiemouth if funding can be raised. My last information which came from a senior officer at lossie, was that the Bucc is earmarked for the visitor centre if it gets the go ahead. For the moment it is in storage at Lossie.

RE: Gate guards

I’VE HEARD RUMOURS THAT THEY WANT TO REPLACE THE VICTOR AT MARHAM WITH ONE OF THE RECENTLY RETIRED TORNADOS-SCRAPPING THE VICTOR!!

RE: Gate guards

In one of the books I have (RAF gate guards) the Comet was allocated to the RAF Museum in the late 1960’s before being loaned for display purposes at Lyneham in 1986.

Hope this helps

Mark
