i was down near gatwick today and saw some unkown things.
1) a civy airplane that looked like a c-17 (four engines and a T tail) what was it.
2) twice i saw an airpalne which was bright yellow
3)i saw at least once a plaine with a lime green tail.
this was all from a motocross meeting under the take off from the airport where planes eihter finish theiir right turn, 180 turn or go straight on.
ahh it was intresting a plane about every two minutes all day.

Hiya. Yeah Saab, I saw all the models in the WHS… not cheap though… £16.96 for a plastic push fit of a Delat CRJ! 😮 and £14.95 for a plastic push fit of an Easyjet 737!
They also have the Gemini jets for sale to at an average of £25.00, which is around the normal price.

It’l be 26L tommorrow according to the forecasts (And they’ve been using it for a week now as well I think)

Yes there are stacks of models up there. It is a pretty good shop with quite a selection of aviation goods though the café leaves a lot to be desired. Sadly I can’t get up there this year as I arrive in the North Terminal with BA and have to transfer to Heathrow.

I’ll be flying into Gatwick on Sunday the 18th and overnighting at an airport hotel. On the 19th I’m off to Malaga, then driving to Seville and Cadiz.
Hope to get a nice bunch of pictures from that lot to post on here.

Virgin normally are on the satellite so yes you will see them from the terrace. The WHS is quite good, books, videos, models, clothing etc.

MMM must bring big suitcase for that. What runway is most likely and can u see VS stands from the “Skyview”. Plus will it be open on the Tuesday I go. Lol one more: wht is to buy in the shop there!!!
By: A330Crazy - 4th May 2003 at 23:59
Yes its still called skyview and its still got that old plane rotting away on the top too. :p
By: dan330 - 4th May 2003 at 23:56
Thanks for the plug Andrew 🙂
Although most of the guides are excellent 😀 Gatwick is definately lacking, I really should get round to updating!
My knowledge of photo spots at LGW is very limited as I don’t go very often (too bloody far to drive!) but I’d just back-up what Andrew said, if they use 08 then go to the other end of the airport and you should be able to get them lining up. If they use 26 then your best option is the Skyview (Is it still called that?) on top of the south terminal although you’ll only get photos as they pushback or maybe taxi.
If you want a good take-off shot you’ll have to tell him to fly from MAN next time!

Hi Andrew.
Im going up there tomorrow morning, to do a little spotting and number crunching. But I will be going up on the roof.
As for geting good footage/pics… I recommend the road that runs past the end of the runway… which is situated at the opposite end of the airport(opposite the south terminal building.).
Next door to LGW there is Lowfield heath air field, the sopt is situated along this road directly next door to the airfield.
BUT! this spot is only really worth while going to, when the aircraft are coming into land, towards the terminal buliding…. its a crap spot when they are taking off.
Other only worth while spot is up on the roof, at a charge of £1.50 for as long as you like. Its Ok for an overview of the south terminal thats directly in front of you, and parts of the north terminal, but as for parts of the west south terminal area, where the FlyBe planes etc, come into dock, there is quite a bit of buliding work/new buildings there. Although from up on the rrof, landings and takeoff can be seen clearly. 🙂
For more info… try Dan330’s site, and look up LGW in the airport guide. 🙂
Cheers.
