An update on the Gatwick Aviation Museum following the passing of Peter Vallance…
Latest as posted on the website…
‘The museum is now being run by a charitable trust that was set up for just this eventuality. It is expected that the museum will continue, that it will grow and strengthen and will achieve the status that Peter fought for, for so many years.
Please note the museum is currently closed to all visitors. We anticipate it will re-open in the Spring.
We are currently looking for volunteers to assist our members who meet and welcome visitors. At present we have only a very small number and need to increase our visitor coordination members. We are also always looking for people who have either aircraft engineering experience or just an interest. We intend to re-open one day a week, either a Saturday or Sunday throughout the year, although it’s likely that we will close during the winter months to all visitors except those that make an appointment.
So if you have an interest in our collection and can spare some time please contact us on the email address shown below. We expect to decide on which day to open in the next few days.’

Thanks :). Thought I would check as last week in the evenings I had some problems with my internet and wasn’t sure if that might be the case again. Some of the links are working, but the links to the aircraft section was working and then stopped working. It might be the internet running really slow or something.

I am having problems with some of the links on the Museum’s website. Has anyone else been having the same trouble of links not working, or is it possibly just a tech problem with my connection?

Never got around to visiting, but as a note, I was an apprentice at Westlands at Hayes when your Wasp was built in 1962 and watched its progress daily from the balcony above the production line, where the electrical department produced cable looms for Wasp, Scout, Wessex and turbine Whirlwinds. There were a few bits and bobs of Gannet stuff too. I personally re-wired a de-icing test box for Gannets! Lee (then aged 16!)

IMHO it might be good to cut them a bit of slack and try to assist them through some very challenging times β I know thatβs what some people are trying to do! π
Keep smiling down there!! π

No news at this time. Making sure the museum will be open again very soon and will continue are the first things the charitable trust would be ensuring.

Any progress with getting Planning Permission for the site, given the new scope for a more constructive attitude?
