Gatwick Aviation Museum – Charlwood Open Day August 29 2009

Just to let you know that we at Gatwick Aviation Museum will be holding what we term as “an enthusiasts day” on the 29th of August.
On that day we will be running our Sea Vixen XS587 and one of the two Sea Princes. We will also open as many cockpits as we can to allow people to get a a real close up of these airframes. Many of our volunteer engineering staff will be on hand to answer questions and help probe the depths of the aircraft!

Numbers will be limited to comply with H&S regulations, if you are interested in attending please send email via the website, or to: openday@gatwick-aviation-museum.co.uk.

Thank you Peter.

Perhaps AMB would like to contact the Gatwick Airport manager, he may be able to arrange a tour for him. Just be sure that you have all of your books and plenty of sharp pencils. Oh, by the way Gatwick Airport is actually in Crawley, so it may be more appropriate to contact Crawley Airport manager.:o

This should read ‘Open day at Charlwood, as when I read the thread title, I envisaged airport ramp tours, trips to the dump to see the Herald and Comet, visits to the ATC tower etc:p

Reminder

Just a small reminder that our open day is only a month away now and we still have yet to make up the numbers, so if you are interested it would help us to know. Thanks

Sadly, we will not be running the Shackleton.
Two reasons really, one is we simply don’t have enough time/manpower to prep her and secondly the fuel cost is between £600 and £800 for AVGAS.

For the past three months or more, all of our main engineering effort has been with the Sea Vixen, (we’ve fixed a number of hydraulic problems + HT issues) and a little on the Prince. We have to modify the stbd side fuel system on the Prince to make it an electrical system. This should be completed in the next couple of weeks, we have all of the parts now.

We’re also trying to get the STAD to run beyond idle, it’s resisting all efforts at the moment. It’s often the subsidiary items that take disproportionate amounts of time. Many man hours without any progress feels like time wasted when there is so much to do!

Sounds great, will you by chance be running the Shackleton as in previous years?
