As far as I am aware the Harvard is currently offsite having some restoration work carried out. How far they are with it I dont know at present.
Fantastic shots in her new museum setting, I got to see her in the flesh,so to speak-breathtaking, absolutley breathtaking- & thats from a fixed wing prop fanatic.
p.s The photo’s do her justice.- Thank you all again for the positive feedback….keep it coming please.
Some of the Harvard is onsite but not readily accessible….I went up last Friday and was delighted to finally make it up there. The museum is wow and delightful. The Gazelle is wonderful with an amazing history and a superb memorial…….

Cheers mate, I’d appreciate that!
Last time I saw it it was just the frame with the pedal hangars but with canopy rails and canopies on, but thats it…wonder if its moved on much, by the look of things they’ve been busy with other projects!
Thanks in advance John! 🙂

That will be NORTH AMERICAN HARVARD IIB FX322 I guess?, I can’t recall seing it yesterday but I was pushed for time and that place is so busy that you can miss loads if you don’t look carefully.
I am going there for the model show on Sunday so I will crack off some shots of her and post them.
Regards,
John.

What a stunning, stunning, restoration – just shows what CAN be done!
John – did you by any chance get some pics of their Harvard – we passed on the project to them some years ago and havent seen it for about 2 years… in fact I had hoped to pop in at the weekend (have a rudder pedal for them) – the Chippax we collected was about 2 miles away from them but on the basis it was 100miles to get home (at 50mph as we were towing her and were a bit concerned about the tyres) we didnt have time
Seems to me that Naylan and the boys have been drinking the same water as the chaps at MAM!
Very well done to all!

Morning all,
After reading this thread I wanted to go and see the Gazelle for myself so yesterday I got my sorry behind down to Doncaster for a look see.
I was totaly blown away by what I saw, she is a perfect example of preservation at it’s most highest standard, the display was perfect and gave the mind lots of food for thought, here are a few pics……

Not bad considering how she was not so long ago……

The rest of the museum is fantastic, it’s been a while since I last went and I kinda forgot what it was like, it’s like a really good junk shop, you can rumage around for hours and still keep finding lots of gems.
The cockpit collection looks to be growing in number and the Sea king is being restored, the other halls have some really good displays and the whole place comes highly recomended, the only gripe is that the signposts to get there are a little vague but hey thats just cos I’m useless with a map!!!.
A Couple more……

Well done all at Doncaster and keep up the good work, I will be there for the model show on Sunday.
Regards,
John.

Gazelle XX411 restoration
For those who don’t know a brief history of XX411.
The Gazelle was allocated to the Royal Marines and saw service in N.Ireland.
In 1982 she was sent with the task force to recapture the Falklands and was shot down forcelanding in San Carlos water, her pilot Sgt Andy Evans later dying of his wounds.Recovered after the war and returned to the UK, she was stripped of spares and used for battle damage repair training.
In 2000 she was purchased by Aeroventure and restored in 2006-7 by the REME team and stood, pride of place, at Waddington for the 25th Anniversary memorial service held there. She is now back on permenant display at Donny as centre piece of a Falklands display.
In a nutshell a genuine warbird that has survived against the odds.

If you would like to see the effort and attention to detail the job entailed there is a page on Aeroventure’s website as well as one created by the restoration team(look up XX411…it’s there somewhere),where there is a comments page
I guess this would be the web page, really great job guys!

Gazelle XX411 restoration
Thanks for all your positive responses,’tis not I you want to thank as I had no input on this restoration, however the lads who deserve the thanks are REME engineers at RAF Aldergrove along with some museum members.

Currently the museum is working on the former Ipswich DC3, the first preserved Seaking in a UK museum & generally improving the site overall.

Radpoe Meteor, please forget my questions above, just please except a “virtual” pat on the back & hand shake for a cracking job. Bex

In theory a great idea. Queation time:
1. How complete is the airframe?
2. What colours would be the options for her?
