Hi,
I have just been given a shipping container which according to the dataplate was for the J-47 engine. Does anyone know of any of these preserved in the UK?.
This one has stood in the open for the last 35+ years and will require quite a lot of work to get it fit for display, but I feel it is worth saving.(All I need to find now is a J-47 to go with it…:D ).

Keith Smith (Marine Salvage) had a J79 when I was there a few weeks ago, but you are probably correct, as they are about 4ft longer than a J47.

Thanks guys.Pete I saw those bits listed, will ask him if he has more. JC I doubt a J79 would fit in the container I have, but I guess it maybe worth giving Steve a call.
Considering this is something as mundane as a container the forged parts on it are quite something. I will attempt to post some pics once it’s cleaned up.

Seem to recall that there was some J47 parts on ebay earlier today.
Be something nice to put in your restored container.
Be warned though they werent very substantial parts. 😉

I can`t find any records of any in the UK, although I would not be surprised if there were as my references are really out of date!
The only ones I can find listed in Europe are with the Royal Netherlands Air Force Museum and the Italian Air Force Museum.
There is a chap on eBay who makes furniture out of jet parts who has been selling a lot of J47 bits lately, may be worth asking him? I think he may call his business “Jet Art Designs”?
Pete
There used to be several J 79’s (proper Phantom engines) at Hanningfield metals a few years ago, and some moved through Marine Salvage in Portsmouth, so there are definately some in the UK but where are they now ?

I thought preserving cockpits was a fad, but shipping containers? Where is this going to end?:D
Anyway here is a picture of the contents of the box!
