A team led by Boeing is vying for a contract to replace the Air Force’s old fleet of more than 500 refueling aircraft with commercial planes that have been modified for the task. Delta and Boeing plan to formally announce their partnership on Tuesday.

Marketwatch is saying that the 30 787 order booked as UFO is not for a US carrier but for a european carrier !!! AA has to buy 787 because they have a sweet deal with boeing which has served them well .

Other sources say that UFO is actualy AA.
Time will tell who is what I supose.

Apropos AA:

One of the big question all fans are asking is, if (I’d say WHEN) AA get the 787, what are they going to do with the livery.
They could potentialy plate the fuselage as they did with the A300. But, then, that’d ruin the 787s economics.

By the by, I was constantly amused by some Fan-boi’s on A.net who pinned a complete fleet change to Airbus for AA, on the fact that AA will choose the A350 due to its metal skin for the livery. Thus they would then buy matching Airbus families to streamline!!! Ludicrous!

Of course, now that Verson 412 of the A350 will have a composite skin (be it in panels or monolithic) that weak and grasping at straws argument is now moot.
Still laugh though when people bring it up.

Its common knowledge that with delta it isnt a question of if but when. They probably have some sweet slots allready on stand by for the 787 , we know many airlines reserved slots quite some time back . AA is said to have gotten some nice slots aswell ( i think they got Old SU slots) and is rumoured to be behind the 30 787 order placed last week (UFO) .

Given that Delta have previously operated the B727, B737, B747, B757, B767 and B777, I’d say that qualifies as The Prediction Of The Decade……
