The last weekend, Geedee and I did a pilgrimage of some 23 former 8th AF bases. We took my newly acquired B17 tailwheel and one from a P51. The B17 was from Arizona so never made it to the UK, until now. We did over 920 miles
We are doing a photo diary and it is placed here:-

Lovely stuff – very envious though I have spent much time anyway on the dromes of E Anglia.
Two detailed additions.
Tibenham, whilst the home of the Norfolk Gliding Club, has an increasing prop-driven population, indeed a second hangar has been completed in the last few weeks. There’s a couple of Tiger Moths and a particularly nice RV4 based there.
Knettishall is not ‘all agricultural land now’. It houses four or five GA aircraft and is quite active.

We finally have got the thread to the halfway point! We started Sunday with a trip to Bassingbourn. When I acquired my B17 tailwheel from Robert in Arizona, it was my intention to take it to the home of the Memphis Belle. Use the link above to follow us on the last 2 days of our 2012 pilgrimage.:)

Cheers Chaps – it was great fun but very tiring. People were very friendly, especially the chap who gave me an original angle poise lamp from Fersfield Ops Block (Joe Kennedy flew from there as did other Anvil/Aphrodite aircraft)
The tailwheels gave the trip a bit of context and was amusing. I kind of like dragging a wheel from Arizona over th pond in my hand luggage to stick it on bases where its intended role was acted out. The thread will grow and grow and will have links to various related internet resources.
