I found this prop in a local charity shop, it’s approx 20in diameter and has broad arrow stamps and an indistinct inspection stamp. There is also a stamped number which appears to be 209A. The bore is plain, no keyway so I wouldn’t imagine it transmitted much power. Any information or suggestions gratefully received.

Being ex-mob I have good reason to believe because they were relatively small they were easy to “souvenir” er “borrow” er “liberate”……I mean not that I would of course…..oh dear me no. Hence while there are a few more around. Believe be, I’d have ‘liberated’ the entire Jag that was being ‘reduced to produce’ rather than the few panels I did get away with (allegedly) if I’d had the space.

I thought Vimy too, but they appear to use a different blade shape on their generators.
As to the no keyway / transmission of torque thing I mentioned, I’m embarrassed as an engineer of 40 years service that I failed to notice, or even consider, that the boss was a taper fit! So torque transmission would be entirely adequate to drive a generator or fuel pump.
I’m surprised too that this is still a mystery; there appear to be more than a few out there, they must have been fairly extensively used.

I can only offer the view that it seems vaguely 0/400 or Vimy stylee wind generator

Mine was £10 or £12 although slightly devalued by having the hole on each blade. – now plugged with a bit of teak to match.
I take it from the lack of responses that no-one knows the original purpose?

I have the exact same one dated 1918 by decal…. if you found it in a charity shop you did very well, have seen them reach £150!

Thank you for posting your pictures, especially as the stamps are so much clearer than on my example.
I have seen another example in an auction catalogue published online, described as an ‘apprentice piece’ which I am sure it isn’t.
Similar sized props, but with square-ended blades, appear to have been fitted to Zeppelins; having picked this up in the shadow of Cardington sheds I was hoping for an airship connection, but can find no evidence as yet.
But that has reminded me, I found some data plates from an H.P. Harrow in the same area. I wonder…

I can’t help you with the ID of the prop you have but this one seems to be a pair to it. I thought probably some sort of wind powered generator prop myself. I bought mine back in the 80’s in a junk shop in Berwick upon Tweed. The blades had been drilled and a lamp holder (240volt) fitted to make some sort of light fitting.
I don’t know if you can make out the detail but there a few more ID numbers on mine
