Soccer / Footie legent George Best is in a private hospital tonight in a very, very poorly condition. It seems the cocktail of drugs he’s on follwing his liver transplant op has caused him big problems.
Doctors say his internal bleeding has restarted and are not really sure why.
The next 12 hrs are critical.

No doubt straight into God’s starting 11!

When my husband was a young boy he was taken to see a Manchester United v Derby County match and he said he thought George Best was brilliant.
It’s a shame George had this terrible addiction to alcohol and I do feel sorry for his family – no father expects to bury his son!
RIP George.

I can see your uncle’s point. If I had to watch a football match I’d probably knock back a few in the interval too.
You obviously have far more exciting and important things to do with your valuable time. Like racking-up 5,600 posts on here
George Best said himself that he only wanted to be remembered as a footballer, which is obviously an enduring legacy that only a minority posting in this thread fully appreciate.
When the time comes to shuffle off this mortal coil, I’ll be at the bar with Ren, George and the former Miss Worlds. I doubt we’ll even notice the charmless curmudgeons nursing their pint of mild and six straws in the corner.

I am and I do, Steve.
He should be remembered for the pleasure he gave to true football lovers the world over, and not for what he became.
What’s that bit about “casting the first stone”?

You’ve got to remember a lot of people on here are probably not old enough to remember or appreciate the legend that was George Best!!!

Give the guy a break now and let him rest in peace
Yes please, once again the ideallists put the world to rights.

my uncle said when it was half time he used to have a drink and was once drunk for the second half.

He had a liver, he abused it. He got a new one, he’s been abusing that! The only person/people I feel sorry for in this case are the family of the person whose liver was wasted on him.
That’s what I think aswel . I feel sorry for his family
Sad… He stopped football at his 27 but didn’t stop alcohol. Man, this is a lethal addiction. 😡 🙁
RIP Irish super-star 🙁

He must have had some qualities of merit, to dominate every news broadcast for the last 72 hours- I just can’t understand what they were.
‘and now, for the latest on Football legend George Best, we go live to the hospital.
Penny, what is the latest news?’
‘ Umm…… he is still in bed………………Back to the studio’
And so on, for days on end.
He may have played a good game of football, but that was 30 years ago, and the only thing he has subsequently done for England is drink. Still, at least he managed to hang on for 24 hour boozing. He has only remained in the public consciousness due to his drunken clowning, the lurid headlines generated, and newspapers sold.
Like any of us, he deserved a private, dignified departure, and sadly, he has been denied it. These days, the only thing the media loves more than a hero is a ‘victim’, and in GB they had a bit of both.

Thank goodness for that , we will just have to put up with a couple more days on the news and then we will be scot-free.
Charming.

I do agree with the comments about his liver problems being self inflicted but still my condolences go out to his family.
