Best charged with drink-driving
Former footballer George Best has been charged with drink-driving.
Police say they stopped the former Manchester United player in Merton, south-west London, in the early hours of Friday morning.
Mr Best, 57, from West Ewell, Surrey, was arrested and taken to Wimbledon police station.
He is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
In July 2002 Mr Best promised to give up alcohol after a liver transplant.
Last November it was claimed the star threw bricks through the window of his wife’s car after he suspected her of having an affair.
Alex Best is currently in the Australian Outback, taking part in the reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
On Boxing Day last year, the former Northern Ireland international spent 10 hours under arrest in connection with an alleged assault.
He was arrested in Reigate, the town where he used to share a house with his estranged wife.
At the time police refused to confirm his identity, or the victim of the alleged assault, but said he was released without charge and that no accusations were being pursued “by any party”.

Does this really hack anyone else off?
The man who had it all, gets a liver transplant when popular opinion was that he had no one to blame but himself, and is still abusing not only himself but endangering others too. Hope he gets a long custodial sentence…
Sorry – when he needs another transplant I hope he doesn’t get the opportunity; harsh, but it would be the only way to make him understand that the people (and their grieving next-of-kin) who donate vital organs don’t do so lightly.
It is people like Best who turn people from becoming organ doners.

There you are – I said he would be claiming bad luck on getting caught! Silly sod.

George Best used to be a dynamic professional footballer but then became an enthusiatic amateur drinker. Then after abusing his body for 30+years he found out that he needed a liver transplant. He claimed he would never drink again before the operation but since then he has just continued to abuse the doners liver instead. He is a jerk of the highest order. – Nermal

I to am in agreement with you Flood. What a waste of a good liver, which could of gone to somebody who might have actually appreciated it more! IT just goes to show that in this country it doesn’t matter what kind of man you are, as long as you have plenty of money you’ll get by absolutely fine!

Sadly He is a sad pathetic man in my view pity to see such a legend in this way but its self inflicted,he has been given all the breaks and the help yet he still do i again what a waste.Personally i would love to see a cleaned up sober Best who no longer in this condition but him and Gazza seem not to be abe to help themselves,it is a illness he has but he has been given chances a lot of people don’t get thats what upsets me.

Have to agree with Flood on this one. Some family lost a loved one and donated their organs to help others. Then this idiot comes along and abuses that. They should cut his liver out and then see how he gets on. I’m angry over this, I once looked after a 14 year old girl who died because a liver was not available. What a waste.

…and then he beats up a policeman, gets send to prison, does the prison secretary and has to train a football team of inmates to play against the wardens…
I kinda liked Mean Machine.

He is probably sitting in the bar now, being commiserated on being unlucky enough to get caught, with his favourite drinking buddies and just knocking them back – one after another.:mad::mad:
