German expedition, august 12th (DUS, CGN)

Been a while since I ben to Germany for spotting. Last time to Dusseldorf was last year during the world football championships (Aermexico 777 charter!). Last time to Cologne was probably 3 years already. Besides, I needed an excuse to finally try my car on the Autobahn, had it over a year now and still not gotten round to it. :diablo:

Spend from 10:00 to 15:00 at Dusseldorf. I would have left earlier as DUS gets dull after 14:00, but wanted to await the departure of the S7 tupolev.

After that I went to Cologne. Cologne is kind a unique in that it is more interesting in the evening then it is in the morning, at most airports it goes other way round. Reason for this is the large cargo operations of DHL and UPS. OK, I did not get to see any DHL planes, but since I work for them (seafreight department) that is no big deal. Did get some UPS MD-11s which was the whole reason for the trip there.

Only spend some 4 hours at Cologne, and that includes walking for well over an hour to get to and from the spot. Of course I could have gone to the observation terrace, but I prefer my planes flying over taxiing! 😀

Out of 114 planes I got 68 new registrations too! Not bad at all!
