It would appear that using anti-Americanism is standard practice for Schroeder’s SPD. Previously he campaigned on an ticket loaded with comments designed to appeal to the largly anti-American German population and this time the tactic continues as SPD campaign posters featuring pictures of the caskets of dead U.S. military personel are being used to attack the policies of Angela Merkel.
Pretty low even for Herr Schoeder but no doubt the pictures will appeal to the large number of Germans who apparently believe that GWB organized the 9/11 attacks. The election is on Sunday I believe.

I am sorry but I can’t follow you. Overpopulation? Lack of resourses? Fine but what has that to do with this subject. I would be happy to take a critical look at Europe. the U.S. Canada, Mexico on any issue you choose but my coments were about Herr Schoeder exploiting U.S. war dead.

Sauron- The reason that it appears odd that you defend the US is that the world faces severe problems of overpopulation and lack of resources which is getting worse by the passing day. If you were to critisize the lack of effort by western european nations to respond to world problems, I could respect that. But you are simply critisizing them for opposing the US, as though the US it is the best interest of the world to follow US leadership. That sort of makes you look silly because I think its obvious to everyone that the US is mostly out to make money. Thats not to say that we have to blame all the worlds problems on the US, but the US is certainly not holding solutions to world problems. It sort of makes you look like a cheap hanger on to the benefits of a US led world economy.

And, just from having heard a bit from that election campaign, it looks quite like the american presidential election: a big show, should I say, a farce. Another of the candidates (a very serious one) pulled out of the race because he made comments against east Germany, rendering him suddenly very unpopular.
I haven’t heard about what Schroeder said, but if what you wrote is true, it can be seen at the same level as the anti French campaign during the last US elections…

Oh you have noticed that have you? Do you believe it is bad form to be pro-American as apposed to being always anti-American? I have noticed you labour over that very issue sometimes.
What do you find inappropriate about ‘stuff like this”? If this was a post about an American offical making a remark about Herr Schroeder or Senior Fox, the anti-American BS would go one for days. A remark about “old Europe” a couple of years ago is a good example.
There are more than a few members here who are consistantly anti-American to the point of being ignorant if not firmly in the moonbat category. I am sure you have noticed. Have you ever asked them why? If not, why not? I, at least can claim to have challanged American members on occasion when they have made uninformed or silly comments about Canada or on other issues.
To answer your question, I don’t mind at all. I am a proud Canadian who has no wish to join the U.S. but I am certainly very happy about the fact that Canada and the U.S. share a 3000 mile boarder and are good friends and good neighbours.

Sauron- I cant believe how pro-American you are, and Ive noticed you posting stuff like this for quite some time. Do you mind if I ask your personal opinion on the idea of Canada becoming part of the US?
