German Phantoms Burn Coal. RAF Lossiemouth 2/3 May 07

Another excellent Cottesmore Aviation Group on base visit to RAF Lossiemouth/Kinloss on the 2nd/3rd May for part of the Neptune Warrior Exercise. Due to operational requirements, we could not get on base at Lossiemouth on the first day, we did the second, so we joined everyone else at the end of the runways. As an added bonus the F-4F/ICE Phantoms of Jagd Geschwader 71 ‘Richthofen’ were in residence. The weather did not play ball as the sea mist, or Haar, rolled in during the night and took until late afternoon/early evening to clear.

Our Squadron host was quite proud of the ‘Carbon footprint’ his aircraft had left on the pan
