Hi Guys
some threads ago, there was a piece on the JU88 that crashed at Blewbury on the Oxfordshire/Berks border.
at the time i noted that i had what was recorderd at the time ( mid 1980’s) a blade from that aircraft.
Well, i have now pulled it out of storage and here it is………….for a start it’s bloddy heavy ! it apears to be made of steel, but perhaps hollow ?
can anyone identifiy this, as at least German origin ?
cheers
Jules

I recognise that wheel…..it must be 30 years since I rescued that wheel and 4 of its brothers from a farm just outside Witney!! I remember seeing 4 x Horsa wheels on a farmer’s hay bale trailer. I went to see him and he said ‘I have 4 gliders, bought them from Brize at the end of the war’. ‘Pity you don’t still have them’. He said ‘yes, I do!’. He took me to the smallest shed in the world and a bucket of metal fittings he had left after he’d burnt them!! Rescued them. One was painted up with the OXAC lettering and the rest given to an ungrateful Museum of Army Flying! Also gave them several undercarriage legs, nose wheels and lots of fuselage parts we had recovered at the same time.
I remember that ‘Ju88’ prop and Peter saying it was from Blewbury. I am sure it originally came from another Peter who was in the RAF at Brize….saw him in 2005 at Oshkosh – he used to write small books – will try and remember his name Ju!

thanks guys, thought as much, it’s got to be 6ft, i’ll measure it tonight.
How long is it?

Yep, Curtiss electric propeller with hollow steel blades.
If it’s a four-blader it could be Marauder or, more likely, P-47. Three bladers were on kittyhawks/P-40’s and P-38’s.
That looks like a four-blader so probably from a Thunderbolt crash. It’s gone in hard because the hub doesn’t break unless it gets a real whack such as a dive-in or full power into a hill side.
Anon.

Looks P-47 Thunderbolt to me.

Me Neither.
German VDM Propeller’s usually have worm drives in the hub for the variable pitch operation.
And a steel blade? Never heard of that. Would be interesting if anyone here can explain that one.

Doesn’t look German to me, American perhaps.
