Germany offers planes to Russia

The German government has sent a letter to the Russian Minister of Transport offering to arrange to provide via leasing up to 200 MD-80s and F100s to help fill the gap caused by the Russian industry’s manufacturing blockage.
The aircraft, offered in partnership with Germania, SAS Group and GE Capital Aviation Services, would replace elderly Tu-134s and supplement the shortage of Tu-154s. Russia’s domestic aircraft industry has said it will need five years to be able to deliver needed aircraft

I thinks whats meant is that the average Russian Airliner belches out more gasses than western airliners.

And what evidence does he have that CO2 and CO3 from a Russian aircraft is more or less dangerous than CO2 and CO3 from western aircraft.

In February Airliners World it had an article about the IL-18 and it said if you stood behind it you would most certainly get poisioned…..which is kind of worrying

Genius… not to mention burned and and probably arrested as well. WTF do you think would happen if you stood behind Concord with its engines running? Is standing behind a Boeing considered a cure for cancer in the country you come from?

What type of large jet engine burning kerosene at a few thousand degrees is safe to stand behind. They must be very desperate the make them sound bad if they have to stoop to that.

So then Eastern, Continental, and American weren’t politically pushed, since they opted for RR? UA’s entire fleet is P&W powered, so that makes logical sense for them to have P&W powered 757’s. Speaking of politics, I recall a virtual coupe happening when BA opted for the GE90 on their initial batch of 777’s. No coincidence that the subsequent order was for Trent power.

I don’t think politics had anything to do with UA going for PW, as greekdude1 explains.

The Reason why BA switched to the Trents is because the GE90’s proved problematic, and the service from GE was less that desirable. So the next batch and all subesquent orders for 777’s were with Trents.

My thoughts entirely.

The The RR engines are by far the most commonly used power plant on the 757. I think its somewhere in the region of 85-91% of all 757’s are RR powered.

DL and UA both have sizeable P&W powered 757 fleets, but neither are necessarily looking to acquire ‘new’ examples at the moment. What happened to all of TWA’s P&W powered 757’s? Did AA dump them or still have them? I never see them.

The current VIM livery. They don’t have any passenger planes as far as I can see. I wonder therefore if the 757s will be passenger planes or cargo. Assuming this VIM is the same as the earlier mentioned VIM.

Now that is a coincidence 😉
