I can’t read all the words, but the the Spitfire AR213 in the advert was actually Ginger’s personal Spitfire when he was posted to an OTU. He played the role as the ‘jumper’, the Spitfire painted with red, white and blue striped engine cowlings.

A recent article about the Triumph Spitfire in an American vintage car magazine reminded me of this ad from the 70s featuring Mr. Lacey.
I don’t know if the ad was used the UK.

It’s almost enough to make me want to buy a Spitfire.

I remember Ginger at FWS Leconfield in 1952. At that time he would have been highly amused and amazed to think his helmet would one day sell for £1600. I believe that’s him in the second row, sixth from the left.
