I note from the Telegraph article that the pilot, Giles English, is the son of the late Euan English; I remember him, I think, with the Harvard Display Team. Did he not also buy what is now Rolls-Royce’s Spit XIX when BBMF sold it? Sadly he was lost in the Harvard before he had chance to fly the Spitfire.
Glad the occupants of the Moth are on the mend.

News from the hospital is encouraging, lacerations and bruising but happily not too bad, all things considered.

Its been a bad few years for Moth incidents -I wish the crew a speedy recovery and hopefully this seeming trend can be brought to a halt.

Terrible news. I hope both Giles and Oliver return to good health soon and the Moth is returned to its former glory.

Such a lovely aircraft and an unfortunate incident. Speedy recoveries to those involved. By looking at those photos, hopefully it can be rebuilt.

From Bremont Watches Facebook feed:
We are sorry to say that yesterday morning Giles English and his young passenger, Oliver Nuttall, were involved in a vintage aircraft accident near to their home airfield in Northamptonshire, following an engine failure. They were only a mile away from landing and reports are that Giles did an incredible job at putting the aircraft down in some very difficult terrain. Both pilot and passenger sustained serious injuries but thankfully are both on the road to recovery.
We ask that everyone kindly respects the family at this time, please forward any queries to info@bremont.com

The Daily Mail suggests it was attempting a loop, which probably means it was NOT attempting a loop.

Aeroplane impacted 700 metres from the owner’s house (if GINFO is current)
“I saw it circling around and then saw it spiralling down. I heard a sudden revving of the engine, and I thought he was doing stunts first of all. Then it burbled and went into the ground.” Banbury Guardian
I am not saying he was circling his house, got slow or out of shape, and spun in,…. but I am certainly thinking it.
There have been some seriously strong gusts today, and low level turns in high winds can get very sporty, to say the least.

Damn! That’s the lovely Bremont/English one that was at Duxford couple of weeks back. I hope those injured make a swift recovery.
