Gipsy oil scraper ring info wanted!!

Hi folks!

I am trying to help a friend rebuilding a Gipsy engine (chip’ engine).

And according to me it seems that this engine (from unknown origin), already received a oil scrapper ring modification! (nammed 23-39 mods??).

But the problem is that we don’t know the supplier of those rings!!

Has anybody any supplier name or ring reference to help us?

Thank you very much for anykind of information!

‘Flyingairy France’ probably followed by a shrug of the shoulders when the CAA was mentioned!

The scrapper rings are not as plentiful as they used to be, there are 2 possible types of ring although my understanding is the piston mod part is the same for both. Speak to Phil at Skytrade (01884-860202) who usualy is able to supply most Gipsy engine parts – note: They’re not cheap!

Without trying to be to nosey, what is the aim of your friend in re-building the engine? Be very careful if you believe you can sell it or fit it in an aircraft as a “re-built” engine – If your in the UK Mr CAA wont like that unless your able to get an Authorised Engineer to check and sign the work off.
