GLA-Philly US Airways

I was going to put this in the trip report but I’d like to discuss the probability of US Air actually surviving through to next summer, anyone think they will?
Apparently the GLA-PHL route exceeded expectations and US Air management were delighted with the load-factors on the route, here’s hoping.

Unlikely as Southwest don’t interline with anyone (I think)

Correct.

Was the Stratocruiser at Philly too? Did you get on board and what were you on when you took the picture ? (which plane I mean not which form of stimulation) 😀

As for US Airways… well BAA told us the other night that US were very happy with the GLA service, so I’d imagine if they do fold then perhaps someone else may wish to take it on?

I got aboard the Stratocruiser but I can’t remember what I was on when I took the pic 😮
Pics were taken at the Dover Air Force Base Museum, about an hour south of Philly in Delaware. All the cockpits were open and you could sit in all the cockpit seats if you wanted 🙂

I don’t THINK US have left any routes from PHL due to Southwest. They have introduced GoFares however

What I meant was if US Airways are being forced of domestic routs from PHL then connecting passengers who would fly Europe-PLL-??? could be lost to other long haul carriers and go lets say Europe-EWR-???

This could affect international pax number also with the possible loss of connection pax originating in Europe.

Southwest did move into PHL in March (I believe) with about 30-40 flights a day. That has really taken the edge off the US Airways domestic capability

Yes, PIT is still a focus city with about 70 flights a day which is about 5-6 flight an hour. Southwest did move into PHL in March (I believe) with about 30-40 flights a day. That has really taken the edge off the US Airways domestic capability which leaves them with only the international.

PIT will remain a focus city. At PHL they have the problem of Southwest, who I think set up shop this year. Competition is very fierce I understand

No major hub competition doesn’t mean success. The Philly airport is a nightmare even on good days. They are sandwich between the NYC and Washington DC traffic which greatly impacts all arrivals and departures out of PHL. US didn’t have any direct competition out of Pittsburgh and they basically closed down that operation in the last 2 years.

US Airways troubles aren’t coming directly from competition, they are bleeding money due to a lot of internal issues.

I hope US survive and wish them good luck. They need to get concessions from staff and cut some older fleet types and unprofitable routes. Removing the PIT hub I would expect to have helped. Lets hope FLL will help to. Also have they started the bmi codeshare yet?
