I’m glad to have found this forum : finally somewhere to share and learn more about my interest! I’ve always felt it isn’t exactly something I can talk about with other people as I’m afraid I’d be laughed at or found, well, ‘strange’. How would I describe myself? Maybe a bit of a ‘passive’ enthusiast if that’s the right way of putting it. I’m more interested in planes, particularly commercial aviation, because of the wonder of flight (how does something so heavy stay in the air for so long and all the rest of it), because of how planes are a means of ‘escape’ to somewhere else, and just because planes themselves are incredible, complicated things that have come a long way since the first flight by the Wright brothers.

Don’t feel strange about being interested in aviation. It’s just a passing phase we go through. I’ve been interested in aviation in most of its forms for the larger part of….ahem…. 40 years now, though I still think there might be a couple of forumites who could beat that.
This is a lively, friendly place with many people, including aircrew, willing to help and share information. The Historic and General Aviation forums are very similar in mood to this forum. Should you feel the need to venture into Modern Military or General Discussion, it may be advisable to strap on a tin hat!
