The issue with Boston and the early RV particularly (they don’t get much earlier than mine) is that with a very springy undercarriage once you have flared and are stalling nicely onto the ground you hit a bump and it, working in concert with the u/c, flings you back up into the air at which point the brakes, that you are pressing so cautiously anyway with nobody in the back, become totally non-effective.

If the bump is big enough your next return to earth is not your final one and there is now a decreasing amount of the 600 metres left. You urgently need to make an assessment as to whether, when it does finally settle on the ground, you’ll have enough grass left to complete your braking (very gingerly for fear of a tip up onto the nose and very expensive prop) or you are going to make an embarrassing exit through the hedge at the far end?

Factor in a 90 degree crosswind which is no help at all in shortening your landing roll and you’ll see there is only one option if you have even the slightest doubt. Open up and go around.

Moggy, I have updated the merged Jim threads, forgot to add however, I have to have a final check in 3 months time.
I have heard that the airfield is rather a tricky place to take off and land on, at Boston, best to land on the A17!!.

Cheeky s*d, as a matter of fact I realy was driving in Boston today.

That’s good to hear Jim. :applause:

I flew into Boston Aero Club on Sunday to pick up and drop off a passenger. Incredibly friendly place with lots of activity, but very definitely an airstrip to be avoided for any of the RV range. Bumpy as hell.
