No…. NOT a new Ryanair hub!!:D:D
Since Reykjavik is closed Icelandair are using GLA as their hub for now.. this was the current scene at GLA (Just a shame normal Scottish weather has resumed:mad:)

Hopefully the volcano is still causing chaos in Iceland and some better weather at GLA tomorrow.
Cheers.

Basically they have moved Reykjavik to GLA… so all feeder flights from Europe come to Glasgow then pax onward to the states board a US bound flight at GLA, any pax wishing to actually stay in Iceland fly to Akureyri and land travel (400 miles) to Reykjavik.
Same in reverse for the inbound US flights, change a/c at GLA and on to final destination.
Sun is threatening to come out here 😀
Cheers for the explanation there! Sadly I wont be able to see any of them as I am bogged down with studying for my exams coming up in just under a week and the lack of spotting places at GLA easily accessible by public transport. Enjoy the aircraft while they are here!

Can someone please explain to me how this is going to work out? Are Icelandair offering special flights from GLA to their normal destinations? I can’t see way of offering travel from GLA to Iceland. What are Icelandair doing from GLA?

Morning FI departures to CPH, OSL and AMS depart at 10:40, 10:50 and 11:00
Make these departure times 09:40, 09:50, 10:00 !! They are on BAA Glasgow departures page.

Good captures there Scotty , Heard they might be staying for a few days
They are up for Saturday anyway. An Akureyri due in at 02:20 !! The New York and Boston flights are due at 08:20 and 09:00. Hopefully the better weather will be with us tomorrow and hopefully the Virgin 747 won’t go on 33 and we can shoot 3 FIs together on the 30s. Akureyri in the north of Iceland is still OK so there are flights between there and Glasgow. That is the Iceland link. I reckon the hub at Glasgow is necessary because the runway it Akureyri is too short to support a 757 with enough fuel to do the at least 2500 mile trip to the nearest U.S. destination of Boston OR the apron is too small to have a few 757s in at once (I just had a look at the map and yes it is very small).. OR both !

Thats an awesome sight. One of the best looking aircraft in the world with one of the classiest liveries around.

Cheers lads.
Yes an odd sight indeed, another 2 out of shot..currently 8 757’s on the deck just now.. hope it’s a sunny day tomorrow.

Whilst I am not a fan of modern machinery I really like the Icelandair coulour scheme. Very eye catching.
