Well,
Watched the Glem Miller documentary on Ch 4 this evening. Excellent by the way! I recognised East Kirkby, PA474, NX611 & YAM’s LV907.
Was that Plane Sailing’s Cat’ in the hangar?
Excellent prog by the way, has my seal of approval!
I wonder if a serious attempt to locate Miller’s kite will happen now that the approx’ location has been given?
Happy New Year everyone

RE: Glenn Miller Mystery
Hi Lancman,
Pity about that, still never mind, it made for an interesting TV programme & showed a number of pretty aeroplanes in equally pretty settings…. Wonder if the interior shots were out takes from the BBC’s “Night Flight” thingy, due out some time during this milennium.
Wonder which lucky soul got the fuselage mock up after filming ended.

……and just for the record Lancaster R5868 S-Sugar was also shown. Or at least the bomb bay was; wish I’d set my video now!

RE: Glenn Miller Mystery
Halibag, no, grandad knew nothing about the little plane seen by the Lanc crew-it wasn’t one of ‘his’ at the time, and as far as he knows, the story didn’t make it around the squadron or anything like that.

Nice photo’s!
I have a soft spot for the Cat’s. (If anyone is interested, I know where a number of these & Sunderlands were disposed of at the war’s end.)
I rather liked the footage taken in the hangar, but was a bit surprised to see when the credit’s rolled that a dance coach had been hired… Does that mean to say that the dancers were only actors? If so, then the makers were a bit dim, as there must be dozens of living history groups happy to bop along in a hangar, in period dress, free of charge!

RE: Glenn Miller Mystery
I thought this programe was informative for those who did not know the story of how Glenn Miller died. I read this in the Flypast magazine some time ago.
The Cat in the programe was not the PBY-5a Catalina G-BLSC that belonged to Plane Sailing, I think it could have been one from North Weald. I could be wrong.
The first picture is G-BLSC the second is PBY-5A Catalina N9521C. Regards.

RE: Glem Miller Mystery
So did your grandad ever hear the rumours about the fate of the little kite in the bomb dump area?

RE: Glem Miller Mystery
There was nothing new as such in the programme, I knew about all of this from a book called ‘Failed To Return’ that was out years and years ago, but it was still a very good show-I took even greater interest as my grandad was ground crew on the Lanc squadron involved, 149.

Yep,great programme, glad I posted the pointer!Didn’t realise there would be such a lot of stuff about RAF Bomber Command in it.Glad to see the LV907 is being kitted out interior wise.Last time I saw the interior it was practically bare.
Thumbs up all round.
