I’ve been down to see a friend of mine today he’s got a pair of wheels which we think came off of a glider (a lot were broken up around our way) can you confirm. I’m also off to look at what we think is the main spar from a glider on another farm shortly I’ll post pics……. so is it?

Not Glider wheels.
I would say that the wheels are AH10245 – Barracuda, Firebrand, Firefly Mk 1 main wheel.
AH7062 is the wheel casting number.
Cheers…

There are usually a lot of stamps and markings on these hubs. If you could attack it with a wire brush i’m sure you’d find more…

I lived near Witney and found a dozen Horsa wheels in the 80s…..also had undercarriage legs….the guy bought 3 gliders at the end of the war. We/I donated the whole lot (except one wheel) to the Museum of Army Flying…..never got any thanx but that was years ago! The wheel looks same to me

I’ve had a look at the Horsa parts list and here are all the Dunlop parts – I haven’t a clue what’s what.

That number doesnt seem to tie up -could you look for a number on a fork near the centre and the tyre size would be handy!

Bump
Bump – any ideas, I have been informed he knows where there are more of these. The farmers used them on trailers after the war

Been down and extracted a wheel to see if we could find any numbers. Found embossed on casting
