Im hoping that some one is going to be able to point me in the right direction.
Im looking for good accurate drawings of the E28.39 aircraft to build a large scale replica. I have a set of drawings from a russian source but the accuracy leaves a little to be desired.
Does anybody have a set or know where accurate sets can be sourced?
does anybody know where the guys that built the fullsize replica got their drawings from?
Did they use original manufacturers drawings or something else as the basis?
Any help is as ever gratefully received.
Regards Martin

There’s a 1/72nd scale drawing in British Experimental Turbojet Aircraft by Barrie Hygate. The book is now akin to rocking horse poo but the plans were available in 1/72nd and 1/48th scale from what was then Argus Publications. Last I heard they were called Nexus but it’s the old Aeromodeller Plans Service.
Not rocking horse poo – republished this year in paperback by Crowood Press.
Damm, I was hoping to get a mint for that book on E-bay 😡

Best tip is to avoid the infamous ‘Aircraft of the Fighting Powers’ drawings with the fat fuse and small wings, and anything based on them.
I did a set of 1/48 drawings for an ARBA resin kit, and MMP produced a Meteor & E-28/39 booklet many years ago containing these plans. They’ll probably be too small for you I suspect, but I might be able to find a set – send me a PM if interested.
Best place to start would be Tim Kershaw’s excellent recent book ‘The Jet Pioneers’ which contains a lot of data on the E-28/39 and a lot less myth than anything else. Tim can be contacted via the publisher, and was very helpful in discussions we had after publication. (He was also very nice about my drawings in a roundup on plans etc. in the book – before we met!) Some more photos Tim found were published of the construction were published in Aeroplane, after the book’s publication.

That’s good to hear, Martin – what scale are you planning it to be and are you talking about a flier or static replica?
I would suggest you ask the MAM to enquire with Roll Royce Heritage Trust (I believe some of the work on the two FSMs was done at Ansty) and/or the Lutterworth group who erected the one on the road island there.
