Hi everyone, I’m after some technical information from the Gnat, hopefully in the form of a schematic. On Bluebird we have a small pair of tanks that were plumbed into the combustion chamber and the jetpipe of the Orpheus to drain excess fuel to avoid hot starts etc, but with some of the plumbing having rotted away, the exact manner by which this system worked is eluding us. Does anyone have the relevant info from the Gnat which may help us work out how it goes together and functions? Thanks!

I would get in contact with the Gnats display team as first port of call. They must have the maintenance documentation to hold the PtF tickets for their frames.

Mike,
Have you spoken to the team at North Weald ?

Thanks for the reply Tony. It’s something on those lines, yes- but what we really need is a look at the appropriate schematic from a Gnat. Anyone?

On the VC10 the collector tank collected all the fuel from the drains etc to avoid messing up the aprons, you would then take it up to 80% power on the runs to clear the drains and the fuel would be sucked out via the pipe into the exhaust by a venturi effect and vapourised in the jet pipe, we used to watch it on ground runs to tell whoever was running it when the drain tank was clear, you would get a white vapour trail out of the lower jetpipe as it was emptying. Whether this is a similar system on the Gnat I know not.
