For the past week or so some demented muslim from Yemen has been msging me with all sorts of delusional religious bull****. On Friday instead of replying to his superstitious nonsense I sent him a picture of a huge plate of bacon.
Haven’t heard from him since… 🙂

Confrontation results from religious discussions for one simple reason: you’re telling them that their most fundamental beliefs are wrong. But the fact that you are telling believers they’re wrong isn’t necessarily a bad thing because, in a modern context, being able to voice your opinions and challenge those of the majority is critical. Unfortunately, as a result of cognitive dissonance, the uncomfortable feeling resulting from holding conflicting notions, facts can seem like ridicule when they work against firmly held beliefs. But, if a person gets upset about a statement of fact, then that emotional reaction isn’t your fault…..

People of your sort have no facts to back up their rhetoric, so you are just verbally flatulating with your keyboard with this rhetoric; therefore it is your fault.

Hmm, from the Oxford English.

Dismiss

1 order or allow to leave; send away:
she dismissed the taxi at the corner of the road

You are going to make leave something that does not exist; eww, that is just like something from nothing.
You give atheists a bad name.

You are entitled to your own opinions, you aren’t entitled to your own facts. You are effectively pissing away your life with faith that 2000 years ago a bunch of Palestinians knew everything about the universe. Epic fail.

Ah, I see, so eye-witness statements, from hundreds of years ago, have to be 100% accurate, but it’s perfectly acceptable to allow for mistakes in eyewitness statements of recent times.

Send 3 & fourpence, we’re going to a dance 😉

RpR and others will correct me if I am wrong but belief is not about scientific proof it’s about faith.
Believers don’t need to prove their faith – they just posses it. So rational attempts to seek proofs are irrelevant.
This argument can never be resolved because the gulf of understanding is too great.

Why is it necessary that you have enemies? I don’t have any nor do any other atheists I know.

Probably just as well that (I assume) you never knew Stalin, Pol Pot, or Mao Tse-Tung.

Are you saying that eyewitness statements from long ago, from the Bible for example, are not 100% accurate?

No, I’m simply saying that I don’t know, and it’s invidious to expect otherwise, since neither does anyone else, unless they have seen the evidence, written down as the events unfolded. I’m quite happy to admit that I don’t know whether there is a god, or not, but I get intensely irritated when I’m confronted by others (for or against) who will move mountains to persuade me that they know best (even to the extent of getting increasingly personally offensive, abusive and foul-mouthed,) when I know, perfectly well, that they really know nothing, and are simply trying to browbeat others to accept their point of view.

Since mankind had conscious thought how many gods, religions or forms of religion have there been? at the time there would always be many who believed, some who disbelieved and of course those who used the whole charade in a power and control game.

Our current crop of religions have no more validity or logic than the now defunct and discredited religions of bygone times, personally couldn’t care less who you say your prayers to, the great god Coca-Cola if you wish.

Stay within the law, don’t push your beliefs up my nose and carry on believing whatever you wish to believe is absolutely fine, trying the evangelical approach will only bring you grief, education and knowledge are or certainly will be,the death knell of religions.

Do you have a single piece of objective evidence to prove the existence of God, or any God that would stand up in a court of law?

No, not one .

The Christian religion is based on faith and faith alone. (although many synods or organizations forget, or simply ignore, that to hype their personal dogma)

Are there any? The Bible was written decades/centuries after the events it described by handed down word of mouth.

Your statement is a contradiction in terms; if a religion is dead, it’s dead, there can’t be any proponents, otherwise it would be alive.
Unfortunately for all of the “modernisers,” religions don’t work the way they would like them to work; you can’t pick out the best parts, and discard those little inconveniences that mean that you can’t do as you like.

Ironically the opposite also applies. If religious followers can’t answer things written in the bible that have been proved DIDN’T happen then the wording and arguments are often made to say things to side step the issue brought up.

The dead messages of dead religions have no bearing on life today; only what the proponents of those religions do now in the name of those religions matters…
…that is how we will judge these religions and their proponents.

Maybe you should read this:

http://www.pitzer.edu/academics/faculty/zuckerman/Zuckerman_on_Atheism.pdf

& yes, it is 23 pages long, but 7 pages of that are references to back up what the author claims. Something the bible sorely lacks & instead contradicts itself on just about every other page. (The 4 completely different fairytales about when jesus’s tomb was found & what was in it etc for instance.)

Matthew 10:34-36 – “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. — Sadly too many preachers ignore this and parts of the Bible that gets in the way of their feel good preaching.

Bit inconvenient when just about ALL the other religions claim the exact same thing.

So?

One has to give them credit for their conviction.

It is better to have an enemy for whom you have respect, than a colleague for whom you have none.
