Agree with all that was said – HK is a great place to visit.

a couple of other things to consider

use the Star Ferry to cross Victoria Harbour – a mini harbour cruise every time

ride the trams on HK island

visit observation area in the Bank of China building – 43rd(i think) floor for a good view.

Is there an observation are in the new tower ? – if so that would be worth a visit, it was still being built on my last visit.

Lantau Island – take the steps from Po Lin monastry to the buddah on top of the hill.

visit the Science museum – Cathay Pacific’s first aircraft – DC3 ‘Betsy’ is there.

looking forward to my next visit sometime soon

It just so happens I was in this restaurant 2 nights ago. It’s call the FELIX restaurant. The bar is next to it, over looking the Harbour. The toilets , as WYSI said, are excellent. Quite expensive though.

Hi Softlad, have a great time in HK. Did a 3 year tour on 28 Sqn (Wessex) in early 90’s – fond memories.

Endorse all of the above comments – if you want to try something different, go to the New Territories, which is an often unexplored area of HK. You’ll need to get the MTR (underground) to Tsuen Wan (last stop on one of the lines, takes about 45 mins), then catch the 51 bus for a wild ride over Tai Mo Shan mountain (hang on!), which will take you to the local town of Yuen Long (bus ride about 35 mins). When there, find the local market and marvel at the local produce (I once saw a master Fishmonger who had slit a fish lengthways in half, avoiding the vital organs, and it was still breathing! – not for the faint-hearted). Take lunch in ‘Annas’, and I recommend the black pepper steak – an enormous chunk of meat (probably from an Ox). It tastes amazing (if you like BPS!!)

Try this if you’ve seen enough of the big city.

HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY SOFTLAD!!

Second most of these.

The Peak is great, particularly if you eat in the restaurant that ovelooks the terminal for the funicular, rather than the terminal itself. You’ll find HK is very crowded, here you will be able to get away from the crush for a short while.

We went for dinner on one of the big floating restaurants. That’s a real tourist thing, I’d give it a miss if I were you.

The night markets, and the food they serve at the roadside – scrummy!

There’s also a shop called Wanko. But it only sells clothes, so don’t embarrass the assistants by asking for anything else πŸ˜‰

Softlad,

Well, where do I begin? Hong Kong is a fantastic place. There is so much to do and see here.

I suggest.
Horse racing at Happy Valley…Β£0.80p to get in. Sat or Wed.
Day trip to Macau.
The Peak.
Stanley Market followed by some beers and food along the sea wall.
Star ferry harbour tour.
General shopping in Kowloon and Monkok, get off the main streets. Also Causeway bay.
See the giant Buddha on Lantau Island.
For good food, you must go to Midlevels for western food and for Chinese you must know where to go. We always head to THE AMERICAN RESTURANT in Wanchi, it Peking food and it’s full of locals so it must be good. Traditional Chinese food is a very bland colour and taste, not what you get at your local take away, so get some good advice first.

I have to go out now, I will think of some more.
