Next week Golden Apple Operation’s Sabre will be dismantled, boxed up and then shipped to the USA. The link below will take you to the final cut of a short film we have commissioned to say farewell to this remarkable aircraft.
We will be supporting the new owners and wish them the very best of luck.
We are extremely grateful to all who have supported us and for the enthusiastic following of many over the last 24 years. It has been an enormous challenge and an immense privilege to operate the worldβs oldest jet powered aircraft, the only airworthy F-86A and the only Sabre flying in Europe.
We have been fortunate to have had the backing of many committed individuals over the years and we are all saddened that our involvement in this particular chapter of 48-178βs history is now drawing to an end.

Thank you, Golden Apple. Always a very attractive machine to watch. I’ve always been struck by the German design heritage apparent when viewing the lines of the F-86.

One of my most favourite jets along with the Hunter, it’s a shame to see it leave after many years here on the airshow scene.

Hi All,
To all those at Golden Apple,
An excellent video I have only seen this beautiful aircraft a handful of times and would like to express my gratitude for giving me the opportunity to see and hear this truly one of a kind aircraft that has always been one of my favourites, good luck with any future endeavours you have and to all the team involved from low to upon high a big thank you.:applause:
Geoff.

I think the next oldest jet still flying (for now) is the Classic Air Force Meteor T7. Hopefully before too much longer the Paul Allen Me262 and the Planes of Fame P-59 will be vying for the accolade of the oldest jet still flying.

That’s a really nice tribute to an important aircraft. I’m sure everybody has done the research but wasn’t there an earlier Vampire flying in the USA. I vaguely remember that it had a forced landing and so is probably not flying. Just a question but which is the next oldest airworthy jet in the world?

What a great shame. What is the reason for her departure ?

Thanks for posting this great video. Sorry to see her leave the UK. Just hope she continues to fly and seen by thousands of people in the US.

Cheers for the film – a very enjoyable tribute to an aircraft which will be very much missed from UK skies. I hope the Americans enjoy her as much as we have.

Lovely video, that. We at Global Aviation Resource are currently working on a couple of G-SABR articles, the first of which we published today – this being test pilot (and Shuttleworth Collection pilot) Keith Dennison’s take on flying the F-86A. Keith was kind enough to pen this article for us and it gives a fascinating insight into early jet operation.s Hope it’s of interest! Part 2 is a work in progress but will be coming soon.

I too would like to express my appreciation to Golden Apple Operations for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this significant aircraft in UK skies over many years. I suppose its fitting in a way that the oldest flying USAF jet is going home. Good luck to the new owners.

A great tribute ! Wonder what will replace her on the Golden Apple books?

Brilliant video! Shame that this iconic aircraft will be leaving Europe. Happy memories of many airshow appearances remain π

Many thanks for posting this Mark.
Like many, I too will be sad to see the Sabre leave the UK.
I just hope those in the US who see it will like and appreciate it as much as we did!
Thanks to all at Golden Apple and those involved with it’s operation over the years for their efforts in keeping it flying.
Cheers
Paul

I for one will really miss seeing this beautiful aircraft again in the UK. Thank you, Mark for your excellent displays at Old Warden, the perfect venue for this lovely machine. Others will now enjoy her but we have the memories. Sincere thanks to you and all at Golden Apple for sharing the magic.
Bon Voyage.
