Sorry for the boring subject, but I treated myself before Christmas and this is my first attempt (taken Boxing day at North Denes) at digital photography (and I’ve only just worked out how to make the image small enough to post!). Comments and criticism from the vastly more experienced photographers amongst you gratefully accepted!

Look do stop taking pictures of those things, it’ll ruin your shiny new camera 😉
What make and model? (The camera  )

I wanted an SLR but couldn’t afford it. Having looked through many digital camera mags for something roughly within my price range, I finally chose the Kodak Easyshare DX6490, which has a 10x optical zoom (38 – 380mm equivalent) and came highly recommended in virtually all the reviews I read. It will take a bit of getting used to, but it appears to be reletively simple to operate (thank God!) and should be enough for my simple needs at air displays. I can’t compete with Robbo and his machine!
Thanks for the comments to date – it was a bloody cold and windy afternoon when I took it. The pilot, bless his/her cotton socks, didn’t do as I expected. I had positioned myself to get a good shot as he heli-taxied past to line up for a departure on 28; unfortunately, as you can see, he decided to take the quick way out, hence the less than perfect picture. Language was pretty strong as he went, I can tell you – something to do with questioning his/her parentage!! Better luck next time.

Hi,
Composition. I see you’ve roughly used the rule of thirds 🙂 Capturing two things in flight is a nice touch. Adds a bit to the action imo. Don’t stop the prop though! Use a slower shutter to blur. Would this also improve the light? You’rer almost shooting into sun so it’s a bit dark.
Subject material: shucks it’s a helo. Zzzzzz 😉
Many pros on here will know far greater than I. Oi, Damien where are you?!!!
