I’m sorry to say I’ll have to miss out on tomorrow’s little gathering aswell. 🙁 Sorry about the lateness of the announcement but I couldn’t be sure until now.

I could not have put it better than Ant!

When you get back over here Gary I will show you the emergency panel in the flesh as it were!

You can be forgiven Gary as the Spitfire has a cockpit door on the port side.

The ‘door’ on the Hurri was on the right hand side,but in truth it wasn’t a door at all.It was a detachable panel which could be jettisoned in an emergency,making it easier to bail out or scramble out of in the event of a prang,particularly if the machine overturned.
I’ve posted a couple of pics to illustrate the point.The machine under restoration is the one now in the NASM in Washington DC.The portrait is of the left hand side of a 501Sqn Hurricane in the Battle of Britain.No door!

I am another one that will be unable to attend, im affraid, due to as I thought may happen, I have to work!

I’ll be there.

Easily recognised by slouching appearance (due jet-lag)and a green bottle rolled up under my arm.

Not sure if I’ll be able to do both days yet though, depends on transport and accommodation, but I’m looking into it.

Its not as accurate as my flight sim !

It looks like a door panel under youngster but I thought the doors where on the Port side only on Hurri’s (or is it just an ill fitting panel ?)

Storch delivered my daughter back in August. Or tried to. It was so damned slow, I sent Mrs Snapper up to intercept her in the Hurri, whereupon she shot down the Storch and Whipper-Snapper baled out.

(87 or 79 Sqn Hurri originally, I think 87 most likely. The chap in the hat was Bee Beamont.)

Hey, thanks for that.

I’d hoped to be able to get back to the UK for this but what with one thing and another and a severe lack of available seats on flights…it aint gonna happen this time.

Dammit

However, I intend getting to Legends this year (first time) all I have to do to keep the cost down is to arrange to get on a course or something like attending an IT exhibition around the time its on, that way I get my flights for free.

I’ll be thinking of you lot.

Sorry to hear you can’t make it geedee…hopefully this get-together will not be the one and only get-together we ever have, fingers crossed you can make it another time…

And I am sure there will be a full report here after Sunday on the day’s events 🙂
