I can still recall a very embarrassing moment for the Health Minister who was due to fly from one of the Island Served by the helicopter, but couldn’t , because The helicopter was grounded due to bad weather 😮

And they call that Progress

Yes the helicopter was on a proving and goodwill flight to the Outer Hebrides in an attempt to placate locals concerned with the chopper’s ability to operate in inclement weather (the norm out there).

It made it out there ok, but had to spend an extra night waiting for the wind to die down sufficiently to make the return flight safely. Not much use in an emergency situation I’d have thought, but hey ho, the powers that be awarded Gama Aviation the Scottish Air Ambulance contract anyhow…

As pointed out by all and sundry before they were awarded the contract…

Directflight are also to receive a brand new Islander, built 2006 which is G-SICA ex G-SLAP (built 2006 – I didn’t know they still built these 😉 )

Ooh wasn’t there a brief re-opening of the Islander/Trislander line a few years ago ? Was it in Romania or somewhere like that or I am I thinking of Rombac, the Romanian Bac-1-11 production line ?

Are Loganair looking to lose Islanders now they’ve lost the air ambulance contract Kevin ?

Dont Know REN, I have’nt seen any of them Flying for quite a while now ,It was a bit of a suprise when I saw it today
I would have thought that Logyair might have kept them, seeing as Gama are having some issues with their Helicopters due to the adverse weather conditions on the Islands
