Soon be time for the annual renewal
Anybody have any good or really bad opinions on car insurance firms ?
I am only interested in those firms with a UK call centre (ie not purely internet based)
I have been with the co-op for some years, and I must admit that their customer service is excellent 🙂 (UK call centre)
So over to you guys…

It’s always difficult recommending car insurance companies, other than for reliability and service.
Costs can vary so much according to where you live, and your personal circumstances.
What’s cheapest for one, may be the most expensive for another.
Just stating the obvious I know. 🙂
It doesn’t always pay to stay with the same insurer, as there is no loyalty discount.
In fact the opposite often applies.
I use Swinton for my car, and AA for my van.

By then, it’s too late.I would advise anyone who is about to renew their car/house Insurance, whether their claims centre is based in Mumbai, or other Indian centre.

No, in short, however several yrs ago I was with Norwich Union, I had just picked up a brand new car, 20 mins later, as I was behind one of those large concrete mixer lorries, some old hard concrete fell from the lorry, as it went over a bump. The lorry Reg Number was written down, I then had to have the whole of the car re sprayed. I got in touch with N.U. and happened to find they dealt with claims through a call centre in Mumbai. I tried to explain what had happened, they couldn’t understand a word I said, and for just under a year, I had to find out myself who the Company was, they admitted liability. It was with great glee I told the call centre I had cleared their job up for them, they were blood* useless, as every time during that year, I was passed from pillar to post in the call centre.
I was quite amused when, just a month after trying to get those at the call centre but who failed to be able to grasp the nettle, that I managed to find out the U.K. phone number of N.U. I then wrote a letter to their CEO, explaining their staff were blood* useless, and all the work in trying to sort it out had been left for me to deal with.. Result, as a “Gesture of goodwill” they gave me the next years Insurance free for my troubles.
The moral of the story, is that NEVER again will I Insure our cars, with any Insurance Company who uses an offshore call centre.

I do not necessarily change every year Jim,I look for the best combination of price/customer service.I was with Nationwide BS for years (actually Churchill policy) and they (churchill) were very good, then Nationwide changed their underwriter to LV – I did not like their attitude as much and the next year ended up with the co-op who have been great on the customer service front 🙂 however generally speaking the insurers do not give very good deals to long term customers (illogical as feck ) and start trying to put the price up – knowing you may well head off somewhere else (presumably a high enough % of customers just dont bother to move LOL)
It is a little early for my renewal but one quote looked good with Auto Direct …anybody had any dealings with them ??

My son never stays with the same Insurance Co every time his renewal comes up, he shops around and seems to find the best deal, so I suppose if the Insurers are covered themselves it appears it’s best to shop around, may take a long time, but it has never failed him yet.
I think all the large Insurers are in collusion with each other, as each Companies Policies seem to vary by only a few pounds.

L+V for me, I was with A Plan but each the premium went up and up, It was only when They knew I was moving that the premium came down to a poorer policy. But at renewal they always said it was the best they could find. At one time I had three cars with them.

Just renewed on the Skoda Ute.
Same brokers (A-Plan at Thatcham) offered me a reduction on last year. Now just £192
Moggy
Use A-Plan as well, did me a very good price for my Ford Galaxy & no complaints with the service, The Mustang is insured with Adrian Flux at the moment as they do pretty good classic car policys.

Bazv. I have been with L.V. for the last two years, mine recently came up for renewal, and I told them I would stay with them for the coming year, providing they Let me pay the same premium as last year, and they agreed 🙂 Never made a claim since god only knows, but they were most helpfull.
