Good luck to them in Afghanistan

I hope and wish them all the luck with the elections,a step forward and if nothing else something for those who lost loved ones over there to cling to in future.
May it bring democracy and peace at some point in the future.Small steps ,as has been said each journey starts with as single step.

Not in the rural areas, Linc, and probably not yet ruling the roost in towns but it might come in time….;)

They were discussing this on the bbc news this morning and i do feel hope.Women have wholeheartedly entered into the voting, apparently 75% of the population is about 25 years of age or younger–if they have the will slowly but surely i think they will stand a chance.

Sure but conditions are a great deal better than they were.

A vain hope I fear. We are talking about mankind, which has fought and maimed and killed its own for millennia.

I hope the sacrifice was not in vain and the wishes of the majority are realised. Somehow I am not sure this will happen though!

Iraq still has its problems.
NI still has an element that wants to kill and maim.

I just wish mankind would look beyond power and greed and extend the hand of friendship to one another and forget past differences.

I just hope and would like to think that in 5 or 10 years we can look back and see a huge improvement in their lives.

That’s your opinion, Linc, oft expressed here and much debated by you and me and others.

That’s the trouble Chas Freedom comes at a price, OUR lads and Lassies, plus all the others who were with us. We, our Country should not just jump in anywhere in the world, when some other Countries troubles kick off.

Time will tell as ever but there is a strong sense of anti-Taliban feeling in many parts of the country and if the Afghan security forces are given the chance to mature and stability takes hold then investment will come as in Iraq and the country might stand a chance of breaking the cycle of the past century or so.

It’s a long shot but let’s hope it pays off. Then at least western lives will not have been lost entirely in vain.

I bet that however the elections turn out to be, it will be back to how it used to be before the year is out. Old habits die hard.
