dark light

Goodbye for now..

Tomorrow morning I shall be off on my next trip to…..Hawaii!

I will be getting the 0625 coach from Stansted airport, to take me to LHR. It then arrives at 0805, and I have to check-in at T3 for our first leg to New York. The flight leaves LHR at 1105, and arrives in JFK at 1240 (operated by AA, 777).

Once in JFK I have a couple of hours to have a short wander around, before our flight to LAX leaves at 1430 (AA, 762).

Just 1 hour to spare at LAX before our final leg, aboard an AA 763 to take us to Honolulu. Arriving in Honolulu at 2215 tomorrow evening.

Whilst in Hawaii, I have found details of a Sea Plane operator using DHC-2’s (Beaver) just about 2 miles from our hotel. I have spare money on me, and will almost certainly be looking to book myself on a trip on one whilst I’m there. A 30 minute flight over the top of the hotels and beaches, then inland over the volcanoes, costs around £50. Sounds a fair amount, but when else do you get to fly a sea plane? And especially in Hawaii, of all places.

Coming home Thursday after next. First leg departs from HNL at 1310 aboard an AA 757, and arrives at LAX at 2130. I have a couple of hours to spare at LAX (why can’t it be daylight?!) before our AA 762 flight to JFK. This conveniently arrives at 0730, so atleast I will get another proper look at JFK before coming home.

An hour later I head back, bound for LHR again aboard an AA 777. Finally arrive home at 2015, and I’m hoping that with the clocks going forward, it may still be light?

I’ll probably be back online later but I’m posting this now incase I don’t. Really should get myself packing….have hardly even considered it yet. I’ll bring back lots of photos of me wearing extremely loud (Hawaiian) t-shirts and rings of flowers (which they hand out when you de-board at Honolulu 😀 ).

there’s something missing here…

AA30 left LAX last night (the seventh) at 11:30pm; now, considering the timezone LA is in, that means it was only scheduled to leave an hour and a half ago… So how come everyone already has arrival times for it?

Scheduled arrival at JFK is 7:47am EDT (3 and three quarter hours hence), with AA142 scheduled to leave JFK at 8:30am EDT, getting him back to Heathrow tonight at 8:15pm BST.

Hi!

First time I’ve had a chance to sit down in an internet cafe here. Everything is going well, and Hawaii is just amazing. There’s too many ways to describe how it, but I’m loving everything about it.

Flights here on AA were very good indeed, and I can confidently say that the first leg (LHR-JFK) was one of my best flights (definately in the top 2 or 3), out of about 60 flights I’ve flown in the last 10 years. The aircraft was great, with more than enough leg room, and the service in general was very pleasent. Food was great, and I spent most of the last 2 hours of the flight sat at the rear galley talking with the friendly flight attendants.

The other 2 flights were both very good, although they’re not really comparable seeing as the service is completely different between international and domestic services.

Yesterday however, was my best flight. 😀 Onboard a Cessna Stationair sea plane, for a 30 minute trip over the island, getting in all the sights from 1500ft, including HNL airport, Hickham AFB and Pearl Harbour. The lagoon from which we took off and landed, is just at the back of HNL airport. Therefore, the downwind leg on the approach actually bought us over the top of the airport, and so I have some nice aerial photos of the terminals etc.

I begin my flights home on Wednesday, and should get to spend a couple of hours at HNL getting some nice photos, as the airside passages between the piers are all open air, with no fences or windows at all to obscure the parked planes. I eventually arrive back late on Thursday evening, and so I should get some of them back on here by Friday.

Now it’s back to the beach for an hour or two of body-boarding before sunset 😀 :p
