Goodbyeeeeeeee!

Look at this carefully…it is a brilliant example of British Humour!

The British government has scrapped the Harrier fleet and on their farewell formation fly past over the Houses of Parliament they gave the government a message.

Lean back a bit from your computer monitor and squint. Seriously… push your chair back a couple of feet.

My hat is off to the man that was leading this Squadron.

Drawing wedding tackle by contrail was a favourite occupation of fighter pilots in the ’50s. You could almost guarantee one on a fine day somewhere over East Anglia. I suppose the powers that be got fed up with the complaints from the maiden aunts who had had it explained to them.

Things like that do happen. Another forum member (StuartH) and I watched a Lossiemouth Jaguar climb to contrail height over Moray, Scotland, and with great airmanship the pilot drew a huge phallus in the sky – an unmissable outline of meat and two veg half the size of the county.
From memory the Jag was part of a mass fly-off for an AOC’s inspection, or similar, and there were repercussions…

I think it was around 1971-1972 and I only ever met one other person who saw it, an older gentleman who was convinced it was a sketch of ‘Foo’ although I definitely concur with Al’s interpretation. Incidentally, the chap in question also witnessed the Whitley crash on Ben Aigen.

I wonder what happened to the Jaguar pilot…

LOL !!!!

Seem to remember seeing a picture somewhere back in 1960’s-70’s of Princess Anne visiting an RAF Lightning Sqdn.at it’s base in UK, that had it’s aircraft lined up for inspection and the tail letters spelt out something similar looking from the review path.–lol !!! 😮

Also a very cheeky memorial plaque was on the lads crewroom wall at RAF Bensen around the same time, with a varnished item under glass that came out of one of the Royal Flight Andovers. Beyond that I say no more -lol !!!

I really do wish someone had managed to capture a photo of that rude feat.

Apparently they’ve all been buried in the Arizona desert for future generations to excavate. 🙂

Great photo but made on someone’s computer. The RAF didn’t have that many airworthy Harriers at the time!

My hat is off to the man that was leading this Squadron.

My hat is off to the teenager who spent all of 10 minutes in his bedroom knocking this up using the cut-and-paste function in Photoshop.
