Google Earth – DC-6 at Cairo Airport

I came across this on Google Earth – it looks like a DC-6 and might perhaps be one of three UAA machines (SU-ANK, SU-ANL & SU-ANP) recorded as having been withdrawn at Cairo in the early 1970s. However I have not been able to find any other references to its existence there. Does anyone have more information?

The DC-6 is SU-ANJ, used as cabin trainer. Believed scrapped in 2004 (so Google Earth picture is earlier)

Trying to attach a pict.. – that’s y first post!

Probably SU-AVZ of Air Memphis. On 2 April 2004, while it was taking off on runway 23L, the right-hand main gear leg collapsed, causing additional damage to the nr.3 and 4 engines as the aircraft veered off runway 23L.

Just wondering, what is the story of the airliner which has gone off the runway in the south of the photo?

Thanks for that, Albert. I had done searches using “DC-6”, so that’s probably why I did not find this reference.

It does indeed appear to be one of the three you listed. You’re not the first person to spot this:
