If your after second hand stuff then Jessops is a good shop, seem to have helpful staff and give good advice.
However if your buying new then take a look around the net as there are some huge price differences and Jessops never seem to be the cheapest! parkcameras.com, two shops in Sussex are usually hard to beat on price and its where I’ve bought my last two cameras. Just sent my new one back with a fault so I’ll tell you what their customer service is like in a few days!

Yes that B777 belongs to a oil-baron from (Al-Aryab Group i think). AW also published that aircraft.
nice pics Andy.

My OM-10 is an SLR and does the job! It’s a solid camera and I bought it second hand with a 50mm lens for just £80 or something crazy!
I then bought a second hand 200mm lens for £60 (which has since been returned because it was faulty) and then a second hand(!!) 2x Converter for about £15.
Everything is second hand because such part are no longer made for this camera. Getting hold of new lenses and other extras is easy too. Go to your local Jessops, LCE or other smaller shops and they’ll have plenty.
So, for little over £150, you could get a second hand camera kit; Olympus OM-10, 50mm lens, 200mm lens and 2x converter. Bargain!

Echoing Dan’s opinions, I got a Canon EOS 500n, the 300’s predecessor from a Dixons branch. It came as a starter kit with a 28mm widish lens and a zoom going up to 200mm which isn’t bad for planes but as Dan says 300mm or more is better.
The good thing about the Canon EOS range and Nikon’s too, is that there is a camera and price to suit just about everyone’s skill levels and requirements. The kit also came with a bag, a flash gun a tips book and a few rolls of film all for about £350
They usually have a range of automatic modes for shooting portraits, scenic vistas, fast moving action etc. and are a doddle to use or as hard to use as you like.
You don’t need to be an ace photographer to get good pictures, composition is everything as they say 😀

Cheers for that Dan. I shall take it all into consideration. Seems pretty pricey. Looks as if though Im gonna have to wait a while before I can get a decent camera, seeing as how last week I handed in my notice at work. 🙁
Cheers once again.

Depends on your budget really. I would definately recommend you go for an SLR and then have a lens up to about 200-300mm. This should enable you to get some really good pics.
When I started I bought a Canon EOS 300 set which included a small lens for about £250. Looking on parkcameras.com the new EOS 300V (its sucessor) is £190 body only with a few options with lenses as well.
You could probably start off with a cheap 300mm lens (maybe even second hand) and as you get more serious and experienced go for a better lens such as the Canon 75-300mm (about £170).
I only have experience with Canon, stayed with them all the time and haven’t had a problem. Also they seem to be offering a lot more in the way of digital cameras if you eventually upgrade to them.

Im not really sure. Can you advise me a little? I not really up to speed with Camera’s. 🙁
Cheers Dan.

Once you get a better zoom you’ll get better pics, as with everything it will take a bit of time and practise and you’ll start to see things improving all the time.
What camera are you looking at getting?
By: A330Crazy - 13th April 2003 at 21:46
Ren: According to Airliners.net the 777 used to belong to Eastern skies Ltd., But it now belongs to the Saudi Oger!
T5: I used the Olympus Superzoom 105G 35mm Zoom Camera, pic below:
Not your normal camera for getting perfect shots.

A nice selection of shots there Andrew!
What sort of camera did you use to take those photographs?
By: Ren Frew - 13th April 2003 at 21:38
Yip, good stuff there. That private 777 must belong to some oil baron or someone ?
Nice to see more pics taken by actual forum contributors as well. When I get my act together equipment wise I hope to post some of my own.

Yes the camera I have aint great… the EAL photo, I used no zoom at all as the camera I used didn’t have that feature! 🙁
I hope to be getting a better camera soon anyhow, enabling me to get better shots. 🙂
By: dan330 - 13th April 2003 at 21:15
Nice pics Andrew. Very good pics, main thing letting you down seems to be the lack of zoom on the camera, which can’t be helped!

Great stuff there mate….
A 777 at Paphos! Any chance of something similar when I go there in October?! 😉 Might be my chance of seeing something bigger than a 757 for the first time.
Look forward to seeing more of your photography Andrew!
Regards
Luke
