Great Book!!!!

I’m in the process of reading this book and its fantastic!!

Its Titled:

“BOYD” The Fighter Pilot who changed the art of War.
By Robert Coram
published by Back Bay Books USA

While the title sounds a little too grandiose, there is actually Merit to it. Its about a USAF fighter pilot John Boyd, who flew F-86’s in Korea, and the usual iron of the 50’s and 60’s. Evidently He was an exceptional dogfightr and was a legend among fighter pilots. He was instrumental in starting the fighter weapons school at Nellis, and He gained great notoriety for developing radical theories about fighter manueverability…He went on in later years to be the “father of the F-15, and especially the F-16……I fly with many current and ex USAF fighter jocks and all of them were familiar with him, though before this book I’d never heard of him. He was quite a rebel and almost psychotic!! The book gives a rare glimpse into fighter tactics in Vietnam, discusses How the USAF was going in the wrong direction in the 50’s and 60’s (F-111, F-4 bigger is better) How the Migs were defeating the USAF in Vietnam, and how Boyd and his group set the stage for the Great sucess of the F-15 and 16 in Lebanon/Desert storm I and II

An exceptional book…and not a RA-RA for the USAF..in fact it critiques the Air Force at every level…..I bought mine in paperback for $16 at Borders/Barnes and Nobles in the States. A must for every enthusiast!
