Great time at LHR.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-10-02 AT 06:45 PM (GMT)]I had a great time at LHR this afternoon. I did originally plan to go to LGW today but changed my mind at the last minute.

Saw loads of aircraft, some that I haven’t see before, Including a JAL Super Logistics 742F, A DHL A300 and two private aircraft.

The private aircraft were: D-AUKE — Not sure on airline/owner, do any of you know.

N37CC or it may have been N377CC, was a 737BBJ, again not sure on airline/owner — do any of you know? It had a light blue strip at the bottom of the tail and one runnig the length of the fuselage.

And to top the afternoon off I saw Concorde! 🙂 🙂 G-BOAE.

RE: Great time at LHR.

Thanks DCFly, I’ll try that.

A330,

I use a 35-200mm lens and in those shots I put a 2x converter on the end to make it up to a 400mm so the zoom was quite good but even without a zoom, you get some fantastic views/shots from the Esso Station ;).

RE: Great time at LHR.

T5, one of the reasons you cant take shots of fast moving aircraft is you’re probably too near, try putting some distance between yourself and the runway then use the zoom to determine what size photo you want, also, try using a fast film, 400iso upwards(you can buy 1000iso films from specialist photographers) . I use a 15 year old Practica with a 220mm zoom lens and have got some pretty good take off shots from LHR .

RE: Great time at LHR.

The info on the private planes comes from my own databases. I also use publications such as BizJets, jp airline fleets, Aviation Letter and the like that also hold information like this.

RE: Great time at LHR.

These are the views I get from the Esso Station up at Heathrow. Apologies for the poor quality images, this is because I haven’t got a set of prints – these have been done digitally, straight from the negative and so, require a bit of work to make them perfect. They were taken in black and white and I like the effect!

I said in an earlier post about the fact that I am not able to photograph fast moving objects. Look at the car in the shot with the 747!

RE: Great time at LHR.

I have to go to spots where the aircraft move very slowly or where they are static. I use an OM-10 SLR camera and find taking shots of fast moving objects to be nearly impossible. But I think I’ve also been to the spot you are talking about.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-10-02 AT 11:04 AM (GMT)]T5, I know the Esso station that your on about, we stopped in there yesterday to get petrol. As you come out of there, turn left and carry on down the road and you will come to a round about, just carry on going straight ahead, then you will then come to another round about.

Take the 3rd exit at this round about an carry on up that road and eventually you will see quite a few cars parked up on the pavement…this is where i parked… great views, aircraft land right over the top of you, your literally about 150ft from the end of the runway.

As for your question, do I take my own pictures, yes I do, but the problem is I don’t take them with a didgital camera 🙁 , and I haven’t got a scanner as of yet either.

Yesterday the only pic that I managed to get was of Concorde (G-BOAE).

Once I get a scanner I shall post a few of the pics that I have taken.

Cheers. 🙂

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-10-02 AT 10:17 PM (GMT)]This is where my name on the forum begins to mean something – Terminal 5!

Don’t blame you. I’ve only paid it as a one off. It was something stupid like £2.50 for 30 minutes. NCP make enough from their other car parks across the country and not just at the airports!

I get really confused by the runways at Heathrow, but I came across a great spot right next to one end of a runway with fantastic views into the airport. It’s an Esso Petrol Station and is great, it does not require anything, like binoculars or long lenses etc as everything is so close.

The people working in the station don’t mind the people who park up and look on in amazement, just as long as you keep buying newspapers or sweets from them! 😛

I invested in a film scanner on Saturday and am currently in the process of developing a black and white film from this exact spot. Give me a couple of days and I’ll get some posted.

P.S. A330 – Did you or do you take your own photographs?

RE: Great time at LHR.

I was at the opposite end to Hatton cross train station, the aircraft were landing over the fields. I never go into the carparks, can’t be bother to pay for watching the planes (some might say tight git 😛 ). I park up on the pavement.

Btw… looks like work has started on Terminal 5… right mess up this end, cranes and diggers everywhere.

RE: Great time at LHR.

A330,

Whereabouts at Heathrow did you go? Some of the best views are those from the top of the short stay car parks but they forbid people taking photos or even standing, watching over the edge! Some women came up to me earlier in the year and asked me to leave but had a fag in her mouth. I thought this was unprofessional and said that until she removed and extinguished it, I would pay no attention! 😉

RE: Great time at LHR.

D-AUKE is a Challenger 604, operated by Challenge Air GmbH from Cologne. N737CC (not 73CC or 377CC) is a BBJ operated by Mid East Jet Inc. from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
